  • The Avid Embroiderer Presents: Trapunto, September 5, 2008

Embroidery has been a time honored craft for many centuries. When cloth was first available, the first embellishment was probably some sort of thread design. The first known examples of embroidery were dated 3000 B.C. and done by men. The first commercial embroidery machines were invented in the mid...

  • The Avid Embroiderer Presents: Cutwork, August 8, 2008

I just returned from a short trip. By the time I got to Phoenix, it was 112° and it was 115° where I was staying. Naturally that got me to thinking about . . . Christmas. (I am sure there must be some sort of relationship there!) When I think of Christmas and all those gifts, I have three guiding...

LaRue- We all felt that same way at one time or another! Overwhelmed, over informed and lacking in time! Your blog is really interesting and I know people are going to enjoy each and every one of them. Just a quick suggestion: At the top of your post in this forum there is a button called "Favorites...

  • The Avid Embroiderer Presents Endless Hooping, July 25, 2008

Thanks for responding to my request for what you wanted to talk about! Endless Hooping was the winner by far. I selected " Celtic Crosses " because it is robust with great designs and methods. There are interlocking and non-interlocking designs, pre-designed corners and some interesting keepsake...

  • Re: denisity and puckers

That is a really good question. I am unaware of any way to determine, prior to a sew out of a design, about the density. Perhaps someone with digitizing knowledge might answer this question. I did have a similar problem with a design from EL, the density was so great that my needle was 'pounding'...

Mary- Before you send your project to never never land, please take a photo of it and post it here. To post the photo, select the icon between the tree and happy face (above when you reply). Download the photo and make sure you select insert. Make the size about 2" by 2" Puckering can be caused...

rosarypark - What an interesting name! Please do check out my Blog which covers heavy weights and how to stabilize them. In addition to that information, I do suggest that you consider one of the ' soft ' stabilizers available here at ATG. It adds to the softness against baby's tender skin...

  • Re: PUCKERING

Hi Virginia, You are correct, puckering is one of the biggest problems a lot of ME folk complain about. It can be caused by several things, 1. that you have under stabilized the fabric 2. that your desired design is very stitch intensive and too much for the fabric, 3. that when you are hooping your project...
