  • The Avid Embroiderer Presents: Trapunto, September 5, 2008

Embroidery has been a time honored craft for many centuries. When cloth was first available, the first embellishment was probably some sort of thread design. The first known examples of embroidery were dated 3000 B.C. and done by men. The first commercial embroidery machines were invented in the mid...

Grammy12-I have been doing some more research on stabilizers and will probably do a "Stabilizers, Part 2" in the near future. There is so much to know and new products coming out everyday. My Badgemaster blog was really easy to write because I just took photos and wrote down my observations...

Nancy-I am humbled by this workmanship on this cap. That is why I asked for it to be placed in the Forum. When we all see the successful work of others, we are inspired. At least, that is how I feel. I know there are others who for whatever reason chose not to comment, but you inspire me. The photos...

  • Re: Outdoor garden flags

Interesting questions, hmmm..... You could read my blog on stabilizers. I would recommend an adhesive/water soluble type which ATG does carry. Flag nylon of this type can be slipery and a strong stabilizer is a must. Thread is another matter. If you have ever seen the birds in your area building nests...

Grammy12-I gently disagree with the topping being unnecessary. For a slightly fuller look, that added 'filler' allows the embroidery to be a little more 3D in appearance. Your cap is so beautiful. Post a photo of your project here in the Forum, here is how: in a reply or new thread, select the...

  • Outdoor garden flags

I would like to try making outdoor garden flags out of nylon fabric. I intend to use only lettering at this time. My questions are (1) Is there a specific stabilizer I should use? (2) What type thread is recommended for outdoor use? (3) Are there problems with the stitches cutting the flag fabric?

  • Re: Making name tags to pin on

One trick you could use is the Badgemaster Stabilizer, that would hold up well for this project. When I did mine I used a layer of fabric, stabilizer, a layer of Tulle, then another layer of fabric, then Ann's Water Soluble on top or all of it. I used Ann's Heavy Cut Away Stabilizer for the inside...

  • The Avid Embroiderer Presents: Badgemaster, August 22, 2008

If you read the forums, you will see lots of great opinions and terrific suggestions. One of those threads was about an item called Badgemaster. Users felt it was a good product. Since the AnnTheGran crew work hard to give ME enthusiasts the highest and best quality, the site decided to carry Badgemaster...

You may also want to review this post. I know that flannel and fleece are not the same, but they have similar components. It never hurts to see what others are doing. Pat, The Avid Embroiderer
