I finally finished the quilt. Good timing, too; the shower is Monday. This young lady and her husband have been praying for a child for years. The verse pane is from 1 Samuel 1:27, "For this child I prayed and the Lord has granted my petition for which I asked." I tried several tie stitches and wasn't satisfied with any of them, so I settled for bar-tacks. As long as I've been doing quilts, I've never been able to actually machine quilt without getting puckers!!

Kenna is wearing a white batiste dress w/ a green madiera hem that "shadows" through the white batiste. The dress was hand smocked by Kath :o) and is an original design. The dress is a high yoke adaptation from a pattern by Martha Pullen in her "Sewing for Jack and Jill" book. Kenna is one year old. Photo was taken by Melissa from "Splash of Color" photography.

Sara is wearing a dress designed by Kath :o) and was smocked in the hoop w/ a design from Elizabeth's Embroideries on white batiste. Fabric from Laura's Sewing and Vacuum shop. Dress is an adaptation of Martha Pullen's back placket "Bishop" from Sewing for Jack and Jill. The machine embroidery is from the memory of the Brother Innov-is 4000D machine. Sara was letting the wind blow her towards the lake!!! Photo was taken by Melissa from "Splash of Color" photography. Sara is 4 years old.

Club Hat

My husband flies R/C airplanes. I had his club emblem digitalized (by someone else), and I have been making shirts and hats for the members. I thought the hats would be tricky, but I splurged and got the Hat Hoop-It-All and it works fantastic.

Every quilters intent

2 years accumulation of pieces, cut into 2.5" and 5" squares. Then sewed together into yardage (about five yards worth) and made into a shirt and hat. My wife will get a skirt to match in a few weeks

I was just finishing up on my grandson's denim coverlet, shams, bolster pillows and his personalized pillow (for his home away from home - Grandma's house) when Diane Brown did her Blog on Ann The Gran's Jumbo Alphabet. The letters worked up so quickly. As I was embroidering them, so many other projects came to mind. This jumbo alphabet is great. Joan/NJ

Here's my first attempt with variegated thread. I combined two designs, both light and airy looking, as per the suggestions I got on the forums. I think it looks great except for the placement problems I am still having. But, hey, I'm new!! Sandy

My Craft Room

This is my craft room that my husband helped me put together. His shop is on the other side of the back wall. When we bought our new home the builder was not quite finished. We were able to have him put a wall up to make the big family room into 2 shops. As you can see the grand childrens toys are getting pushed further and further to the other corner. The best thing I did for myself was to go to Walmart and Target and purchase the plastic draws and put them on the counter. How nice it is to have everything within reach while working. Some of the bottom cabinets have yarn and fabric in, since I am a knitter, crocheter and sewer also.

It is just like a kitchen though. All that cabinet space and it is still not enough.

Throw Rug Made with Olfa Chenille Cutter

Since AnnTheGran has an Olfa Chenille Cutter on the Home Page, decided to send in photo of a throw rug made from the chenille cutter. I placed the original fabric on top so that you can see how after cutting the layers, the rug takes on a life all of its own. For the bottom of the rugs, I use old bedspreads, old sheets, etc. Good part of this project besides it being fun, sale fabric can be purchased and fabric that has collected dust in the sewing room for a long time can be utilized (finally). This particular rug is about 4 years old and in a heavy traffic area from garage to family room. Still going strong. Great for kid's rooms...real soft. Joan/NJ

Sewing Room Staple for Nearly 20 Years!

As explained in Cathy's Sewing Room blog, Chelsea the Calico was my sewing assistant. She would sit behind my machine and take out the pins I had skipped. She would then flick them and pins would fly everywhere. This prompted me to purchase a magnetic retractable pin grabber (another great gadget ladies). Chelsea was my sewing companion for nearly 20 years.
