Bobbin Thread Weight

I am new to machine embroidery. I have a brother machine. Recently I have experienced problems with bobin thread showing in the embroidery. I chaged bobin thread and that seemed to solve the problem. I was using madeira bobin fill when the problem started and switched.

Are there specific weight bobin thread to be used with fabrics?
