Embroidering on these koozies isn't the problem, though this illustrates what I learned about getting too close to the edge  Embarrassed  the problem is that my sewing machine skips about half the stitches while sewing up the side seams.  Instructions only said to zig-zag the side seams.  They're for fundraising so I'd like to make them look professional.

The machine has plenty of power - it's an older model Brother that's a real workhorse,  and I had the same problem with my old Singer 401, another workhorse.  It is something in the thread, tension, needle, I think - just need to find the secret to sewing this stuff.

Well, we all learned something here...make sure your stabilizer and hoop are secure and your design is safely inside them. You might want to consider using one of those designs as your "Avatar" which can be added in your profile. I hope someone has some ideas ref sewing this material. I will be watching for any ideas. Dianna, I would imagine that this material would not be willing to glide under your sewing machine foot. There are teflon coated sheets that fit on the bed of the machine to help glide difficult fabrics along. You might try a teflon foot. I own a generic one that fits many of my machines and it does help with rough fabric. Otherwise, you will have to realllllllly feed this slowly as you are zig-zagging the edges. Joan/NJ

I have never heard of a 'teflon' foot. I will have to check into that because there are many fabrics that are not really sewing friendly. Pat

I usually just use a medium weight tear away stabilizer. The stabilizer is just there to keep the fabric from going its own way. I think she wrote in the forum that using stabilizer fixed the problem. The forum was "neoprene."

A Teflon foot might work ok, but have you tried you WALKING foot. I useit on any and all sewing projects that are thick fabrics. Yes sometimes we quilters have another idea... lol By the way a walking foot can even be used with a twin needle. for neoprene make sure you widen the stitch as well as lengthen it. this will make a very good neat seam. Good luck , Caryl

I know it isn't as fancy as a special foot but I use good old fashoin wax paper when I need something to "slide".

Welcome granmami! Sounds like you have a grandchild or two, huh? I am here in La Mesa, so that makes us neighbors! Temecula is a beautiful place for families! Thanks for the input of your comments. We all have been new at this at one time or another. Check out the Forums for great information and my Blog (http://www.annthegran.com/cs/blogs/avid-embroiderer/archive/2008/08/22/the-avid-embroiderer-presents-badgemaster-august-22-2008.aspx) that gives info on lots of things. I have used both, a teflon foot and a walking foot, both are ok, but do prefer the walking foot! It makes the work so much easier! They do have some teflon feet that should fit your machine, Pat. You may also be able to find a walking foot that will work on your machine as well, However they are a little more pricey. Well worth what you pay for them ,they sure save on the hands. Mine also works with the twin needle. I love my double needles for seaming! Judy
