    Re: hi

I agree. Off to the ER for you. That much swelling in a short time makes me think a Doc needs to look at it.

Congrats to Marsha. A firefighter/paramedic in the family is great. My husband is finishing the the DROP plan as a firefighter/medic. He will be done next April. I can't wait it. I wonder what life will be like when he retires. After almost 30 years of shift life I am not sure what the normal world does. The life is wonderful but can be a bit of a challenge. Let your daughter know there are plenty of us old timers that made it. We love to help the young ones start out. We made it through countless holidays and birthdays when dad was gone he whole 24. Best advice, just be creative and be flexible. The whole profession is filled with the best men and women you would ever want to know. And yes they are gorgeous.

Glenda, What department did your husband retire from? My hubby did 10 years with Orange County and 18+ with Osceola. Wonder if they know each other?

Anyway, the new little one is now 4 days old. She has her first check up on Tues. She is so sweet and doing great. What a little wonder. A granddaughter... After all my boys I am still grinning.Big Smile Mommy, Daddy and big brother are doing great!

We just had our first video cam call with our son and his family in Jacksonville. Way COOL! It is so much fun to actually see everyone. Our grandson is 8 mos old and rolling everywhere. I tell you what, Video Cam calls with instant messenger is a blast

I am planning to sew this week. Hope it works out.

Take Care all. I'll be in touch soon.

    Cathy,

What is the baby's name?  I must have missed that message!

Little girls are great fun.  I have granddaughters 2,5,6 and 7 and we have lots of fun.  I love my grandsons 4 and 5 but the girls have a special place in my heart!

    Re: hi

    Judy,

I'll make this short and sweet as well, GET TO A DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!

On another subject though, in one of the posts you asked what happened to a lot of the people that were on the list. Well here is my 2 cents worth.  This is not a cheap hobby.  If you do any embroidery at all between the stablizer and the thread it can run into some big bucks.

I have talked to a lot of gals that bought very expensive machines and really don't know what to do with them.  Some of these machines really need a lot of lessons to work and a lot of people just don't have either the time or knowledge to do it.  My machine was not cheap and it does have a lot of bells & whistles but in looking at the new ones coming out I don't think I could do one easily.  This hobby also calls for some knowledge of computers.  How many people do you know that about the only things they can do on one is e-mail and games.

I really think a lot of people get fired up on something and then find out it is hard work and time consumming and quit.  This is just my thoughts and maybe with the Holidays coming they will come back out.

Keep us posted on your finger and congrats on getting out of rug cleaning.

    Re: hi

You are right Marge, it defiantly is not a cheap hobby, and yes I am hoping that more will come out around the holidays. will go to doctor today, can call them at 8 am. and you could be right on folks tossing the hands in the air with the machines. it can be frustrating at times

I know i saw the thing online about the new brother that just came out, all i can say is WOW, i sure would love to have one but am betting it is expensive and no  way will hubby go for that. So my chances of ever getting another one is slim to none. i also know that the economy has hit all of us hard, rising prices on gas, food and all consumer goods, loss of jobs, it is getting to everyone.

tom has realized now that he retired way too early, and is thinking of going back to work,so i know it is tough for everyone out there.

I just miss all of your shinning happy faces!!  Big Smile

Hi Cathy, My husband was a firefighter/medic with Titusville Fire Dept.  Before he retired he was their wellness coordinator/instructor.  It is possible that they knew each other, lots of shared fires.

    Re: hi

See by the time that you wrote this post you finger must not have been feeling to good.  Glad your going to have it looked at.

I watched the new Brother's video too,  also when the new Viking came out I watched that one.  The Viking is about $8000. and I heard the new Brother is going for around $9000. but the new Brinia will be around $12000.  Sorry but I remember when you could buy a small house for these prices.

If I was going to get a new one I would get the Janome 11000, it goes for about $7000. and even though the bed of the machine is as large as these machines the way the hoop assembly works it is a lot shorter to the left.  Besides that I do love my Janome.

Keep us posted on your finger and have fun with your family this weekend.

I was at my Brother dealer today and was told the new machine will MSRP at $8,999.99.  They offered me a full price trade in on my 700, I've only had it since February, and 36 month 0% interest. Plus some extras to go with it valued at about $900.   May have to think real hard on this.Big Smile

    Re: hi

WoW.. I'm shut down for a day and look what happens.. JUDY.. my my are you just trying to make all of us feel bad for NOT being on to keep up converation with you? If we were, maybe you wouldn't have been slicing meat with disgust.. I'm just kidding, hope you are feeling better and the Dr has looked at it.

Rosebud, the new diamond by viking is running the same as the brother.. $8,999.99  and they would be willing to give me an $800 discount on my old software if I up grade to the new stuff knocking it from $2,200 to 1,395.  My budget just doesn't want to go into debt that bad.. So Glenda really enjoy that machine and the software..  I got to thinking though, didn't really need the full package of 4-D, I haven't used everything with 3-D so thought about just getting the Embroiery Plus pack...hmm have to think some more.

As for firefighters.,.. my son when to the Ocala academy was #1 in his class back in "93, he couldn't get a job anywhere including a job as a VOLUNTEER down in the Keys where we lived at the time.  His girlfriend"s (now wife) dad worked at Ft Meyers airport FD but he couldn't even get him on there.  After about a year of training and running the ambulance route in training to become a paramedic, he decided he'd rather fall off a 2 story roof framing houses, then by getting poked by some idiots hidden needle or spit in the face by a drunk, yada yada yada.  He didn't have a good experience. HE would have made a good firefighter too.  He could do repelling and anything they threw at him.  He's done well swinging a hammer so I doubt he even looks back at that adventure.. lol

Onto Marge, what you are trying to achieve on your quilt is what's called the attic window, you are just going to modify it to some degree if you are not making it square and that isn't a problem either. Once you figure out what the side measurements have to be you will be whipping those blocks out in nothing flat.  Good Luck it's going to be beautiful.  My neighbor had started something like that 5 years ago. She has all the blocks embroidered with clusters of flowers and she hasn't touched it since so I know what you are attempting will no doubtedly be absolutely gorgeous when it's all done.

Well, typing on the laptop isn't the easiest when you are use to the desk top.. not that the latter is broke, but we dismantled it so the significant other can maybe get his desktop fixed and he needed the monitor for a few days.. long story but that's the short of it.. LOL Hope nothing else major goes on.... it's hard to keep up with the chatter.. LOL

All of you PLEASE be careful.. as Judy said,.. miss all your smiling faces..

    Re: hi

Hi Everyone!! Well back from the ER. Had to go there after all my doc is on vacation,go figure, lol. By the time i got there it was already too late to do anything with it,so have to just keep it very clean and bandaged until it heals which as badly as I injured it he said could take a while, likely a few weeks or langer. So that does curb the sewing a bit, lol. If I can get hubby the set the hoops though I htink I may be able to get some done as long as they don't require too many thread changes. WEll boy this is sure my Duh moment! I cannot believe that happened. The blade is always flush with the rest of it.I do not know how it got like that. I guess I zigged when I should have zagged! I guess you know Tom will be doing the meat slicing from now on,LOL. He is starting to call me klutz, boy I sure have been lately. I know I can tell you guys that I new the second it happened, i just looked at Tom and said I think I need to go to ER.He is the one who talked me out of it,I knew I should have gone in.

Oh well, tomorrow is another day! I think I wikk just stay in the living room tomorrow! I watched the videos on the new Brother and boy you sure get a lot of stuff with it. I think with the Diamond it was my understanding that you had to buy all the stuff extra and not much came with it.I may have heard wrong on that so I will have to check it out. I sure like the new Brother though! It has some nice features.(not ath I will ever have one.not with these medical bills now,LOL) I will have to watch the videos for the Diamond now and see. I am not sure I would pay that much money for one again. Like Marge said,I remember paying that for a house! My first house was a huge 5 bedroom on 10 acres and only paid 22,500 for it LOL.Also like Marge I love my Janome. I am afraid I may have to keep it ,and not sure I want to get rid of the viking either, but it would be nice to have more space with just one machine.

It's a lot to think about for sure! Well ....Later folks,am going to shower and hit the sofa!

Thanks all for your concern. It is good to see all of your smiling faces again!!!!Big Smile take care

    Re: hi

Eeks! What a night. Around 8:00 last night my son called and asked if I could pick up Willy (grandson 1) as they had to take Anna (newest grand-5 days old) in to the hospital to sleep under the lights. Her bilirubin was up a bit and the hospital felt the home light wasn't going to cut it.

I took a fast, don't ask how fast drive from Deltona to Williamsburg. They live about 5 miles away from where we had our luncheon   and spent the night there. And of course, Grandpa was on shift. Nothing happens when he is home. Anyway, I got there safely and off they went to Arnold Palmer Hospital. The hospital is amazing. They feed nursing moms for free and both parents get to stay with Anna they whole time. What a relief for my son and his family. Thank God for the Palmer hospital system. She delivered at Winnie Palmer. Can't say enough about the quality of care they have received.

Our latest update is, she is doing great. SmileSmileGaining weight and her bilirubin count is going down. So they hope to come home this evening. We will know around 8:00 pm. They are doing another stick-Ouch! at 6:00 pm and labs should be back by 8:00 pm.

Hope all is well with everyone. Needless to say I haven't sewn a stitch in days. I was thinking about a trip to Daytona to the Joanns but it sounds like everything nice is gone. I'll wait for the new one to open. I forget though where it will be located. What a brain, things just slip out of it so quickly these days. LOL

Judy, Hope your recovery is fast.Smile

    Judy

How is your thumb?  I hope it is healing quickly we are getting too close to the holidays to be on the injured disabled list :-)

    Cathy

How is your princess doing?  We have 5 granddaughters (16, 7, 6, 5, 18 months) and a new granddaughter due on Aug 25 and 4 grandsons (13, 10, 5, 4) so I know the panic you feel when the phone rings and are told "Hey Mom can you come and stay with the kids because...)  I also know that little girls are very special and make a special place in your heart.

Keeping both of you in my thoughts.

Hope everyone has her me machine in a safe place just in case Fay decides to come calling.

Have missed hearing what everyone is up to.  Maybe with school starting we can all get back to work on our machines.

I am hoping that the rain holds off because I have way too much to do outside of the house to have it rain :-)

    Re: hi

    Thanks Joan!

Yes we have the hurricane shutters on and have already picked up everything in the yard that could become a missile. Looks like our area is it for tag on this one. They think she is going to hit in Tampa or south(me) of Tampa. They are giving away sandbags in Tampa. Luckily we are not in an evacuation zone,of course with mother nature that means nothing. We have our water and supplies already in place, however we had to modify it as we didn't expect to have 3 extra people here. Tom's daughter and family are here on vacation this week,so it sucks for them but always tell folks that come that we don't gaunter the weather, especially during hurricane season.

So all that being said, if you all don't hear from me for a few days,it is because of the power issue. We do have a generator but doubt it will be able to power the whole house,so we are going to have to pick and choose what we run.

So you all keep sewing up a storm and I will be hanging onto to my hat! My machine is neatly packed away in a safe place and have to make sure today all of our papers are in order and everything is where it will stay dry.(just in case) Have my entire catalog on cd's so am good to go there as well as my backup disc's for the puters..

So I guess we are ready!

take care all,and see you soon. Take care my friends, hope all is well with all of you before, during and after Fay

    Re: hi

    Hi Judy,

Well being here on the east coast we are a lot slower than you.  I only put a few shutters on the east end of the patio, just because the rain drives in on that end.  Don't do much of anything else with the windows.  Guess you can say it is from living here for 44 years and being through God only knows how many of these.

I am going to back up everything as soon as I finish this note.  It is time for it anyway and now seems like the time.  By the way how do you like your new keyboard?

I am getting to the end of the ME for my quilt, I think I have 5 squares to go, then I can start on the new way of quilting.  In between doing that I have to do 25 patches for the dog club I belong to.  Must go to the sewing store and get the material and the colors that I will need for them.  Also I guess I am going to have to wind bobbins for I have to use black bobbin thread.  I'll just do a bunch at a time.

Everyone in Fla. be careful out there.  I don't think this will be a major storm but I have been fooled before.  I am sure I speak for everyone, if anybody needs our help please don't hesitati to ask.

    Take Care

    Marge

    Re: hi

Glad to see all are ready for Fay to come blowing through.  We here in "central"  Central FL are picking up things that can become flying missles but other than that, nature will take it's course. Tornados will spawn and there is absolutely nothing you can do about them no matter how secure you think you have made things.

I have extra water.. luckily the lake will provide water for flushing toilets if that's the case and hurricane lamps for seeing at night and the good ole crank up radio for the latest news.  Lots of soup for eating and beans HA.  Stopped at W-Marts for some fresh veggies couldn't believe there were NO beans on the shelf at all.. I'd hate to be in those peoples rooms after 5 shelves of beans were GONE.  No mayhem but a lot of people unusual for a Sunday afternoon... hmmm wonder why.

Sun is brightly shining so going to the sewing room for the rest of the day and sew.  I've got things in a local area in case I need to pack and run including the cat carriers.. LOL my how they do hate those but don't want any loose cats roaming the neighborhood that belong to Me

Hope all stay SAFE and we'll see you on the otherside come Tues, Wed and Thurs.
