Hello.  I am not certain which burp cloths you have in mind; but I located (by accident) a site that gives free patterns.  There is burp cloth made from fabric which has the flannel being used as batting.

    http://www.carewear.org/patterns/sew/images/burp_cloth.pdf

I have also made burp cloths from adult hand towels folded lengthwise.  Also, nice dish towels make lovely burp cloths.  Usually, I would attach fabric matching a quilt that I had made for the gift on each end of the cloth and sew it up on three sides and turn.  Embroideries can be done on these as well.

     Good Luck.

I use pre-folded diapers and fold and stitch about 2 inches on each side.  Then add a two inch strip of cute fabric on the bottom and the top.  Maybe to match whatever I embroider on the front of the diaper.

Borden - Love your avatar, I am a flower lover with yellow being my very favorite.

I don't have a pattern for a burp cloth.  I would just sew the right sides facing each other with an area for turning the whole thing inside out for a finished look.  After turning inside out, I would also place a few small stars in appropriate places so that the cloth becomes a single cloth.

I have also just used a standard diaper for a burp cloth as is.  When it comes to burp cloths, they are used and sent to the laundry in a short time.

My favorite little saying on them is:  "BURP! - 'cuse me"  (like a child may say "excuse me").

I just read you are looking for burp cloths from baby diapers. Here ia a web site with the directions and they are really cute. I've made many for shower gifts and people love them. Hope this is what you are looking for.

To make it quick & super easy I use a pre-folded diaper and ribbon!

1 I put the baby's name on one end with a design.

2 stich ribbon across the ends on the top side of the ribbon

3 fold long ways with right sides together and sew

4 turn right side out and sew ends of ribbon closed

I buy them in bulk so you can make a few as burp cloths & give the rest to use as diapers, or I just make them up as burp cloths for the newborns at church. Adding a simple ribbon makes the design pop. I also like using fingertip towels, but they are hard to find cheep.

    Happy Sewing

I use the prefolded diapers, they are padded in the middle. They measure 14.5X18 inches.

I embrodery in the padded area, either in the middle or at one end. I do not use a stablerizer. You can add lace or trim with your machine. I add the babies name or DOB if I know it to make it extra nice. It is a real pleaser at baby showers.

I buy the diapers at wal-mart. The are sold by the dozen around $8-$9. I watch when they are on sale and buy up several.

This a simple but nice gift. I usually give 2 with a bow tied around it.

    Pat,

Thanks on the Avatar compliment.  That is my sunflower garden when I am able to keep the groundhogs and deer away.

If you are able to view it larger, you will see a beautiful butterfly on the left sunflower.
