    Thread Probllems

I was doing a FSL bookmark which did the outline in a satin stitch.  When completed, I noticed that some of the loops looked as if it didn't catch.  Is this looping and how can I correct it.

Thanks for all your help.  Margie

    Re: Thread Probllems

Hello Cettlb:  This is really a common problem.  If you read my recent blog, you may have noticed that I recommend Badgemaster Water Soluble Stabilizer (wss).

There are several reasons for that, the most important of which is the problem you experienced.  Badgemaster is a professional (in my opinion) quality wss.  If you purchase some of it, you will immediately notice a difference in the weight of the stabilizer.  You only need a single sheet of it and with others, it is recommended that you use two sheets.  The problem with two sheets is that it is not as stable as a single sheet of Badgemaster.  The quantity used ends up making Badgemaster a better value.  I personally use it for many things, including toppings.

Your problem resulted from stabilizer failure, it stretched just a little too much and was unable to make that connection.  This problem is even greater if you are working with 3D FSL designs, you will have failed projects without the Badgemaster.  Since I have been using it, I have not had a single problem.

Occasionally the digitizing is at fault, but most designers test their designs very well, and it really is rare that the FSL would be a digitizing failure.

Let us know how you are coming along.

Thank you for responding to my post.  Normally I use Badgemaster but a few design states to use another type.  I agree Badgemaster is the best and I think I am going to start just using it.  I love it.  I will try some lace work and let you know how it does.  Margie

    Re: Thread Probllems

I have noticed that some designers do include suggestions for material, needle, thread and stabilizers.  Items with those suggestions have been digitized with those 'ingredients' in mind.

My thinking on this is it is difficult to duplicate the exact formula recommend, especially the material.  Additionally, I tend to see those designs are (in my own opinion) under stabilized.

If you use a digitizing program and select 'auto-digitize' you will get one design.  If you do the same design manually, you will get a different version of that design.  The details can and may well be lost in the 'auto' portion.  I sort of think of the 'ingredients' in the same way.  They are great for pointing you in the right direction, but a really good cook will adjust them to their own personal taste (experience).

As always, whether in the Forums or my Blog, these are my opinions and experiences, your outcome may vary.
