    Lace Work

Do I have to change  the sewing speed down for Lacework? I did, but it took a long time. That is ok, but if it can be done faster without messing it up, I would like that.

Love my 700II. Wish I could Monnogram with it, doing the large Initial in the center. But have not figured that out yet.

    Re: Lace Work

    Good Morning!

As a rule, I don't slow my machine down for doing lace work.  You may be thinking of 'metallic' thread, where you do slow down your machine.  Well stabilized lace work, where the outer edges are correctly in position, is really reliant on the stabilizer.

If you are not using Badgemaster, you should be using two layers of your water soluble stabilizer.  Badgemaster is commercial quality, and you only need to use a single layer, therefore, making it a good buy!

I am trying to do lace ornaments but I can't find a colored bobbin thread for my Brother PE700ii.  Does Brother make a colored bobbin thread for this machine?  I tried using my regular thread wound on to a bobbin and it doesn't work.  It because all matted and stuck in the part of the machine where the needle goes down.

    Thanks so much

Robin, I was told by a friend who does machine embroidery that if you want colored bobbin thread, do NOT wind bobbins from your regular embroidery thread.  Instead, find a close match in regular SEWING thread and wind your bobbin with that.   If you can find a #90 sewing thread, then you can use that also.

I just recently made a lace ornament using a layer of white tulle sandwiched between two layers of Ultra Solvy.  It worked beautifully!   The stitches are attached to the tulle and will hold up better than if I'd used only the Solvy.

I also have the 700ll, and am a newbie! I purchased the alphabet express and am able to make the monogram you mentioned with that. As long as you have different size fonts of the same type. (ie: 1" & 2" of the same font), just merge in the smaller font to the larger font. Its time consuming but easy once you get the hang of it

Robin, although late, this tutorial may be of help to you or anyone else who is interested in FSL - http://www.emblibrary.com/EL/elprojects/holder.aspx?page=PR1211

And, I have not seen 90wt thread for machine embroidery, other than bobbin thread required for a couple models of Brother/Babylock.

Hi Robin... I made lace snowflakes using my top embroidery thread wound on the bobbin make sure it is wound tight  and bobbin is inserted right.. I also used two (2) layers of tulle for stabilizer in hoop  sewed out great .. if your thread is tangled better clean out bobbin case good before starting again I have a PC 8500   Good Luck

Thanks so much for the tip.  However, my problem is the bobbin thread weight.  My machine is a Brother PE700ii and it only takes #90 bobbin thread which I can only find in white.  I would like to try to some lace designs in other colors but can't find colored bobbin thread.

I called Brother and they were NO HELP AT ALL.

Try using regular sewing thread in the bobbin. Best of luck to you and happy embroidering!

I have the PE 750D which is almost the same machine as you have but with Disney items loaded in it. I recently made several lace items including ornaments and bookmarks for holiday gifts and all came out perfect using the same thread in both the upper and bobbin parts of the machine. The thread was 40# and I did use Badgemaster as my stabilizer.

I tried my thread as bobbin thread and it did not work. I am using Madeira polyneon thread.  However I tried the regular sewing thread that someone suggested and it worked great.

Thanks so much for the suggestion
