    black outline stitch

I'm new to embroidery,  i downloaded a elephant pattern tonight,,,, after embroidering, i notice the black outline is slightly off the design,  its perfect on the bottom and left side, but right side top is off.

Welcome to the wonderful world of machine embroidery (ME) and AnnTheGran (ATG)!

We have all been newbies at one time or another, so it is not usuaual that you have a little issue with this design.  The most likely reason that your design failed was lack of proper stabilizing.  Do see my Stablizer Blog for more tips and information.

Always do a 'test sew' of your project on the same type of fabric with the same design and threads.  That will tell you what needs to be corrected such as more stabilizing or a less dense design, etc.

Read the Blogs and Forums for answers and ask as many questions as you like.  ATG has the friendliest and most knowledgeable ME enthusiasts in the world!  Post a photo of your project, here is how:  in a reply or new thread, select the Media Icon (film strip) and follow the prompts.

Sometimes my outline does not match up to the design at all. Since the outline is the very last step, this ruins the whole design!! Why does this happen?? It is so frustrating... Please help!!!

    Thank you!

    Re: black outline stitch

I am an "oldbie" and it still happens to me if the stabilizer is not the right thickness or the fabric is too limp.

Test new designs before stitching out on the intended project - use the same stabilizer(s) and fabric for the test.

I also use spray-on adhesive on the stabilizer and baste around the perimeter of the design before stitching out the design.  Check your built-in designs for frames and use the running stitch version.  They usually can be re-sized as needed.

    Re: black outline stitch

     Hi,

The only time I have ever had problems with the outline stitches is where I bought them or if they were 'free'.  Some places on the web are where digitizers sell their work, some are good and some really don't know what they are doing.  Try and buy from places that have been around for years, if you have designs that you think might be questionable then by all means test them out, otherwise you really don't have to.  Designs are not cheap so if you are getting say 20 for $5.00 I would test these out first.

Another reason could be that if you changed the design in any way sometimes that makes it go off center and that is what is happening with the outline stitches not lining up.
