Just one quick thing to add that might make the foil cheaper.  Costco sells it for commercial use. It's really inexpensive, there is a lot of foil in that pack. I use it for the kitchen mostly and now have another use for it.

Using coffee filter may save you some money now but continue using them and you will have a bill big enough from repairs to your maching to buy everykind of stablizer on the market.

Every paper product is made for a special use, coffee filter are dusty and they WILL clog up your machine.

A cheap option that I always use is to wipe the hoop or machine with a little Eucalyptus oil on a soft rag. It gets rid of the residue and leaves everything smelling great as well.

I know I must be pretty dense but I haven't really made sense of your instructions for  preventing sticky hoops - I am having the same problem with the use of carboard frames (the same discussion).  Could someone, please start at the beginning and explain what this is all about - pictures would probably help, if possible.  I fins so many useful tips on this site and I want to make sure I am getting the benfit of everything I read!  Thanks Angela

Charlie, If you go back to page 1 and read what the others have posted, you may understand better..There are pictures posted here on tape and foil. I don't like the cardboard because the spray can still get on your hoop. Another way to prevent the spray from your hoop is to Spray your stabilizer. Hoop it up and lay your fabric on top. Smooth it out with your hands ore you can even use a small glass and use it like a brayer. This is the method I use the most and never have spray on my hoops. I also use a basting stitch and have wonderful results and clean hoops...

    Re: No More Sticky Hoops

Covering up a hoop can be done with many things, but essentially, this idea is about cutting up a medium, lets say aluminun foil, to fit the hoop. Then cut out the center for spraying. It can be a lot of work and reuse of the cover up is limited.

Sticky hoops are relative to what caused the stickiness to begin with. If you know that, you may be able to check the label to determine the removal process.

Rubbing alcohol can remove a lot of glues. Test a small area of your frame because damage is expensive!!!

I have pretty much given up on using adhesives. There are a few reasons, one of which is seen in this photo:

I sprayed the stabilizer with adhesive but missed an area and the fabric was free to move - and DID.

I use (almost exclusely) the AnnTheGran adhesive stabilizers. This one is a medium weight and if I need more stabilizer, I use a simple tearaway under thewhole project.

Adhesive on your hoop will make for a bad project possibly leaving a mark on it. Sprays can be subject to age, humidity and amount of spray (something like I am).  Do I use them?  Very rarely, but I do.

    Thanks Pattiann

Sorry to sound so remedial, however do you wind the strips around the inner hoop so that when you spray the hoop stays clean?

    thanks again

    Cheers

I have not used this method.  However, my assumption would be that trimming the foil from the center would be involved.

I use  rubbing alcohol to clean my hoops. Hoping I am not hurting them. Can someone give me some insight on it.

    Re: No More Sticky Hoops

I guess you are cleaning and also sanatizing them at the same time.

My next question is why are you having sticky hoops?  You can use sticky stablizer or just baste your project down.  I have not hooped anything but stablizer for over 2 years now.  Stop spraying, you don't have to.

If and when I use spray-on adhesive, I cut the stabilizer to the size I want then spray it.  Lay the item to be embroidered over the stabilizer, hand press in place and then hoop.  No sticky hoops.

To avoid over-spray, I use the bottom of a 24 count water bottle package or just hold the stabilizer over a large waste basket and then spray.

The best cleaner I have found in Williams Electric Shave, just put some on a paper towel or cloth and wipe the goo off, leaves your hoops smelling good too.
