Re: Husqvarna Designer 1 Embroidery Software - HELP!

Not to be a salesman, but do you have Anne's Catalog Express?  If you don't get it, when you plug in your reader/writer it will come up and then just reset and you can put your designs on your card.  I run XP and have never had a problem.

    Hope this helps.

Hi, do you still have the 3d software? Also, was thinking about trading up my d1 (floppy version) to the designer se but just found out that I could upgrade from floppy to usb. Haven' checked the price yet locally tho. With you having both, if you had to choose which way to go, what would be your choice. I would love having usb for my designer 1, but would rather not have to shell out $4999 minus my d1 trade in if I can get by with a lesser expensive option. I looked at the diamond... OMgoodness, seems awesome but to embroider that big of a hoop would take forever it seems!  Maybe in a couple of years haha  Thanks for your advice. You can email me personally about the 3d software.

    cangie:

Do you know how much that would cost to purchase?  I talked a little with the Viking Dealer here in town, but I've been burned by one I went to before I moved here.  He said the amount would be approximately $700 or $800...does that sound right to you?

Also, I was wondering, I don't really care to do extremely hard digitizing, but what simple digitizing I've tried with the 5.0 was VERY HARD.  Is there anything that would let me take a basic outline or some lettering and digitize that?  Would the software you suggested work for that?

Thanks for your help - I really appreciate it. :)

    Hi Vanessa

I would upgrade my Des 1 to USB cheaper & very little diference between SE & Des 1. The Diamond is great Love it but unless your into quilting may not be worth the outlay I can't wait to start doing 14" quilt blocks in one hooping. 4D Extra is a big jump from 3D Embroidery has auto digatizing & takes out the background stitches if overlap + heaps more. There is'nt as big a jump from the 3D full program to 4D full program for the money involved I would stay with 3D unless you were using it a lot

    Cheers Helen

try HUS 4D professional. It has everything you need for a full program. Or you can purchase some of it seperately. Reallly check into the embroidery extra.

I have just bought  it after pallette crashing with Vista. 4D is Vista friendly so that also is a plus. Know patches to have to load.

Re: Husqvarna Designer 1 Embroidery Software - HELP!

I have a much the same problem with my 1+ and customizing system 5. Was able to load the software on vista but 3D doesn't work. Cannot afford to update reader writer or software. There are other problems with my machine, so I am hesitant to spend money on updating or repairs. Oh, I forgot, I don't have any money. The whole system is terribly outdated.(remember the ads "updatable, last machine you will need" L.O.L.)  so........  I download designs to windows vista and put on readable cd.  I then turn off computer, connect old windows 98  comupter (my has problems, but so far customizing and reader writer work) and embroider away. Have just worked this out the last week but so far is working.. now if I can keep my 1+ working I will be able to get some gifts made and maybe catch up. There are a lot of older computers floating around and though it is a pain to switch back and forth, it doesn't cost much and is keeping my outdated system going. Good luck. Brenda

I have a Designer 1 also, and I LOVE the ATG Alphabet Express and the Catalog XP programs for sizing and color changes.  I still need to transfer the design to the VIP disk manager for my Designer 1 EM machine language and then transfer to the floppy disk for my machine.   I used to use the Resize program and the VIP customizing programs.  The Alphabet Express and Catolog XP is so much more user friendly ......and I am not a whiz on my computer.  Another thing is I have Windows VISTA and these programs work well.  Feel free to contact me if you would like.

Re: Husqvarna Designer 1 Embroidery Software - HELP!

I have a designer I as well.. just getting it back from it's cleaning and recalibrating.. been bumped and dragged around one too many times..  The repair man said that it's a GOOD Machine and no reason to upgrade unless I just want to spend more money for a bigger hoop.  MIne has a floppy drive as well and not a problem so far. I've seen the convertes ones in last shop I visited but not sure I would even want to try converting.. my ain't broke, I ain't going to fix it.. LOL

I've tried several free trials of different software and I'm leaning towards the 4D Viking program.  The cost of that software.. the ENTIRE package is $2200.  I've been quoted that price by 4 different dealers, in and out of JoAnn stores. IF you trade in your 3D and Dongle they will give you an $800 rebate dropping the price to $1395. but that offer is only til Dec 31, 2008.  My shops are located in and around Orlando and Jacksonville.  SO shop around and buy what feels right for you.  That's all you can do and if you don't like the staff or help in one store, find one that you are comfortable with.  Only buy from a dealer that is offering you peace of mind as well as a good deal.  It's not a good deal if they do not offer FREE classes to teach you how to use your software and machine.

Re: Husqvarna Designer 1 Embroidery Software - HELP!

Lynn makes so many good points!

I just have one more for your information.  Computers and software can be really difficult as well as fun.  The use of these has some things that I like to point out to people.

Just as there are more than one way to do a function on a computer, so it is with software.  Example, copying:  You can use 'Control C' or press a 'copy icon' or even (select item) hold the control key down and drag a copy to another place.  Part of the reasoning for multiple methods is because we don't all think the same way.  One of the methods will make the most sense to you and that is what you will use.

It is the same with software.  Look at multiple programs because some will have things that are easy for you to understand and implement.  Others will leave you bewildered and frustrated.  The cost may or may not have anything to do with the quality of the program.

You are doing the right thing, asking the opinion of others.  Hope this will help you.

I don't know how I can help as I do not have 3D I have the new 4D. What is your question?

I had the 3D, but upgraded to 4D.  I had 3D for quite some time and I am sure I could help you. Did you purchase it recently??  Did you purchase from a dealer??? If you purchased from a dealer, then they should show you how to use it.  If you purchased from a private party I hope you also received the dongle. Let us know what kind of help you need. I will be more than happy to help you.

Re: Husqvarna Designer 1 Embroidery Software - HELP!

I am a proud owner of the Designer SE LE but I just traded up my Designer 1 Floppy.  You can purchace 4-D extra in the pink box from any Husqvarna Viking dealer for under $400.00 that will give you enough software to size, layer, take out the overlap and write to your floppy, and it will read any format except ART.  To get your update all you have to do is log on to www.husqvarnaviking.com/us and go to embroidery machines update click on the Designer 1 floppy and download the file. you can print out instructions on how to upload the 2.2 update which contains all of the past updates ( gives you illustrations and all on how to do it) open your zip file and write to a disc. Then follow the step by step instructions.  It is realy very easy to do.

Ok all you Designer 1 Floppy  fans,  no do not upgrade to a usb port they have had nothing but trouble with it (why do you think they discontinued it?)  Right now they have oodles of preowned trade up Designer SE with les than a year sewing and full factory warranty and a lot of the dealers are throwing in the 4D Extra software for less than you think wouldn,t you like a machine that has a full color screen and recognizes more than the 12 colors your designer 1 does?

Where are you?  go onto the husquvarnaviking.com/us website and click on dealers. Go to an NBD store near you they are owned by Viking corporate and you will get the best there.

    Pete,

If you want to change clip art into designs without realy learning to digitize go with 4D Professional, it costs a bit more but you can auto digitize on it. I have had a blast on it. It also does cross stitch and picture stitch

Re: Husqvarna Designer 1 Embroidery Software - HELP!

Vanessa there is a HUGE.....difference between the designer 1 and the designer se. go into a dealership and check it out. Your Designer 1 is limited to a black and white screen, it only recognizes 12 different collors,, and you cant direct conect to the computer, or use an external floppy to read all those d1 designs you have and it will also work on a external cd rom drive , right now most stores have trade-up SE machines that are less than a year old and are throwing in the 4D Extra with the purchace for less than $5000.  with no interest financeing you wont be sory that you traded kup
