    monograming

I'm new at this. When I want to monogram 3 letters, husband and wife. I know the last name goes in the middle, but does the husband's initial go first or the wife? Example. Ed & Bonnie Brown       EBB

    Thanks for you rhelp

    Re: monograming

Welcome to the wonderful world of machine embroidery!  (ME)   You are in for a real treat and lots of friendship as well.

There are some 'rules' but as we all know, rules are made to be broken!   You and/or your recipient, can have anything you want in the monogram.    Ask them what they would like.

Check my blog on hooping for some tips.  Towels, generally should not be hooped at all and that may be a new concept to a 'newbie.'   (Check all my blogs, they are filled with tips and tricks for everyone.)

A modern approach is actually to use just a single initial.   This can be advantageous when using a smaller towel where three initials could be overwhelming to the project.   And, don't forget, the smaller initials should be approximately 2/3 the size of the largest.

Well, newbie, do feel free to ask lots of questions.  We all have been where you are right now.  We remember how excited and mystified we were.  And, we are all still learning.  Every project brings new questions and new ideas.  Wink

    Hi Pat,

I am new to ME and want to try some towels for a wedding present.  Any rules that I SHOULD follow as far as athetics?  I have done a couple of tests in the past on scrap terry cloth, without hooping--the end result was quite nice.  I'm just not sure how it is supposed to look when it's actually put on a towel.  I want to do just the initial of the last name.  Help me help me please, with some tips, the wedding shower is coming up fast.

Also have a set of sheets to monogram the pillow cases.  Should the initial go on the 'hem'  part of the pillow case or the actual case material?

Thank you so much for your help!!

    Re: monograming

Sue-Even us Newbies wanted to do something special for someone who is really special!!

ME has the wonderful attitude, you get to create it yourself.  The technical rule is 'centered both ways on the cuff.'  But the real rule is, do what your creative heart tells you to do.

I am partial to the cuff centering because I would not care to have an imprint of a monogram on my forehead in the morning.  Since I don't sleep on the cuff, that works for me.

I just could not help but look on the Net for something special.  These pillowcases, as shown, costs $110.00 for the pair, standard size, (King is extra).  For that price, I hope they bring coffee and the morning paper!

These are so beautiful, they take my breath away.  I am going to be doing a blog this week (watch for it on Friday, July 18, 2008) on 'endless hooping' which is what this photo depicts.   Photo courtesy of Horchow, Fashion Bedding.

Do the monogram for your special friend, and save the endless hooping design for yourself, you deserve to be pampered.

    Hi Pat,

Thank you so much for the info!  I will certainly check out your blog.  I am new to ME and have a Designer 1, so much to offer--so little time to sew!!   Time just flies when I start working on a project, the more I do, the more I want to do.  It's addicting!

I will be making the pillow cases and the towels.  I'll let you know how they turn out.

    Thanks again!

I can't wait to see your work.  Even a beginner can make a treasure and that is only one reason this craft is so wonderful.

Keepsakes have always been terrific, and embroidery makes it possible!
