Re: which digitizing software people are using

I'm trying out a trial version of embird, but am having some problems, thought you might be able to help. I import a pic, stitch it, then try to save it to pes format. I either get an error msg stating that there isn't a current file to convert, or that the project is to lg for my hoop (which it isn't) When I do get lucky & save it, I can't find it where I saved it. & I'm not sure how to convert my project from what I did to pes. Any help appreciated.

I'm using Stitch Era Universal digitizing software.  I just started embroidering recently and came across it while looking for software to use.  There's one dealer in the US for it now--www.lorileedesigns.com. The only thing is that you have to be connected to the web to use it.   It's only $15 so it's well worth it to try it out! Their customer service is great--they have a yahoo group for users and I've had all my questions answered very quickly. Also have user manual.  It does more than I can imagine I will  ever master, although there are more complex versions you can purchase for much more $ from them.  I haven't digitized my own designs yet --have mainly been combining letters and designs for monograms, etc., but hope I can have time to try soon.

Hi - My friend's PE design 8's card reader broke - does anyone know if my PED basic card reader will work with her software? I feel so badly for her! Also, any good free tutorials out there?

If the designs are saved to a file on the hard drive, a cd or flash drive, they can be retrieved and used with PED Basic,

Hi - I agree with Pattiann.  The card readers for PE Design and PED Basic look the same, but they must be slightly different as PE Design will not work with a PED Basic card reader (I've tried!).  But if you're going to lend out your PED Basic card reader, you might as well lend out the software as well (if it's legal).  Then designs created with PE Design can at least be transferred to the embroidery card using PED Basic.  At least that would be my suggestion!  Lynne

thanks - do you have to have the card reader hooked up to the computer to use the software? sorry if these are dumb questions - im a newbie = lol

Re: which digitizing software people are using

Card readers come with software, which has to be loaded onto the PC.  It is this program that is used to find designs and load them onto the memory card.

The card has to be compatible with both the card reader and the format of your embroidery machine.

The reader has to be connected to the pc that has the applicable software in order for it to work.

You can use any brand of embroidery software for editing or digitizing designs.  Once they are saved as pes and are within the hoop size recognized by the card reader, you can use any brand of card reader that is compatible with the format needed for your embroidery machine.

You can use PED Basic, Magic Box, Amazing Box or Vikant/Ultimate - always check the information for the reader before purchasing.

    Donna,

type www.Brother.com  and find the items you want to know about in the selections . Keep going til you open up the embroidery and sewing machine area. Open either Upgrades or Downloads until you find the XP, Vista, etc, fixes and download the Vista upgrade onto your computer according to the instructions given. That should solve your problems. Good luck.

I think anyone who had XP when they bought their computer and currently purchased a new one with Vista will have to upgrade their software to get it to work.  Nora

Check into Wilcom.  Strawberry Stitch has an introductory offer (I think) that is not too expensive----very good program and easy to used and won't out grow and can add onto it as you learn.

Which version of PE design will you be getting? I believe that yes it will work with the jef format, but it would be helpful to know which version of the software to be sure. Have fun with your new software. Enjoy, kt3234 Karen

All software is compatible with embroidery machine formats except for possibly Bernina's art format.

There are several brands that have free trials, Brother is one.  http://www.brother-usa.com/HomeSewing/Software/digsoftware.aspx

I use the Floriani Suite.  It does everything I want, from tweaking designs to full digitizing.  They have a great training system, with Webinars each month, and good customer service.  I have also used Embroidery Office, but I like the Floriani Suite because of the available training.

I have never done photo-stitching, so don’t know about that.  I don’t know if there are plans to make that available in the Floriani software.

The Floriani Suite is constantly being upgraded and added to.  All the upgrades and new versions are free!  That’s a big plus because with many others you have to pay for the “newer, better” versions.

I think there is a demo version available to try out.  That might be something to do to get a “feel” for how it works.  Here’s a link to it –

I have noticed that no one has answered the question from Jo Ann....  I am as grren as you can get in sewing and embroidery. I bought my mom a B/L Ellegante 2 and she is still learning the embroidery side of the mashine. I would like to line her jobs doing shirts for companies.

I had some hats embroidered in the past and just got my art work on Flash drive so she can do my shirts.

I an intersted in learning digitizing my self. I have done my own flyers, and anything I need for my read job of 20 yr.s.  I am looking into working this line of work now. I like what I have seen and I will need to learn all I can as the fact I bouhgt the maching for my mom and if she needs to know something I can help her out and when she passes away, it will come back to me with everything else in the S/E field.

What is a good starter user freindly digitizer software.....?  I have been reading and still up in the air.

But is there going to be an answer to " Has anyone used the Digitize 'N Stitch software?"  I was looking at it also...  I was looking at the Edit N' Stitch also...

I hope I will be able to say, Thank you for your feed back...

Not sure who you are referring to (Jo Ann).

I think a lot of the members here are self taught. There are many programs that will do auto digitizing.  Everyone has their own preference as you can see in the above messages.  Find as many trials as you can and try them to see which one you like the best.

Digitsmith has forums related to graphic design and digitizing - http://www.digitsmith.com/

If you read John Deer's bio, you will find that he started in this field as a child - very interesting read.  His book has basics for digitizing designs and fonts.  http://www.amazon.com/Digitizing-Made-Easy-Embroidery-Designs/dp/0896894924

Do an Internet search for machine embroidery expos and you will find experts like Deer and Floriani who will give you the overview of it all and then sell you their software.  Nothing wrong with selling your expertise.

The Ellegante is a great machine.  I have had version I for a few years.  I do not do that much embroidery any more and never got into selling.

There is a yahoo group for Babylock that may provide more information on the capabilities of this machine.

To learn machine embroidery, this is the book I started with - http://www.amazon.com/Embroidery-Machine-Essentials-Stabilize-Decorative/dp/0873419995/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b    and then bought the rest of the author's publications (the Ellegante is my second embroidery machine, first was a Brother from Walmart and it was also a great machine, although it did not have all the bells and whistles the Ellegante has).

I hope some of this will be of help to you and your mother.

Hello Pegleg1az - Interesting name!!  I did live in Phoenix for many years, and now I am in San Diego.  We are having a cool summer, I have not turned on my AC yet!!!

I use and stand firmly behind Ken Parson's Compositions Pro for a number of reasons.

    • It is full featured,
    • It is very easy - truly user friendly
    • You can work from clip art or vector images
    • It is not expensive - most digitizing software range around $3,000 to $5,000 - This is around $1,200.
    • It has a less functional version if you don't need everything, Compositions Advanced, for only $135.
    • It can be used for just adjusting designs (I remove pieces of a design and add items to it in just seconds)
    • It has 100 standard fonts, and 'True Type' lettering
    • It has automatic applique, steil (photo type) stitch, cross stitch
    • It has fills with voids (fill a field, then have the option to add 'open' areas - which avoids extra heavy stitching)
I could go on, and really love mine.

Hi I have curently the Singer XL 6000 an the PSW digitizing softwere I have found it very simple to use, now this has a built in tool that just magicaly does your design (I like to start out with color book type pictures with bold lines is easy) but I have uses all kinds of designs basically its point and click was extreamly easy for me to learn without really reading the book, only glancing here n there. LOL the draw back is that the usb cord is the old style (not usb but like the monotor plug) so I had problems trying to configure my new computers ( which did not have that PORT anylonger) to it but once i figured that out I really prefered that program then to the one for the Viking Designer 1which was my first digitizing softwhere and it was much moire costly and ha no where near the user friendly interface as the PSW, ( ALTHOUGH I will say I did LOVE my Designer1 it sewed so beautifully)I have also had the PE for the brother at Walmart, that one did not do digitizing but it was more for downloading designs from the internet or your computer to the brother card.

I really hope this helps, Thats the programs I have used, now there may be more updated ones now ... LOL I used the Designer 1 for Viking in oh wow 2002 LOL ( The may have improved that already) the PE was in oh....2006  and I curently have the PSW but bought it in oh....2006 but I still LOVE it :0)

    Good luck
