    Hello.

First off, do you still have your manual for the Innov-is 4000D?  The Brother Manuals are very user-friendly.  If you follow along with the manual, I don't think you will have a problem at all.  Also, if you no longer have the manual, go to the Brother website and call up your machine type and you can probably download a copy right from the site.

Not sure what you are asking.  I am reading that you LOST your actual CD from Version 6 or that you cannot locate the download on your new computer?  If you had installed Version 6 previously and moved your files over successfully, Version 6 is probably still on your hard drive.  If your previous computer had XP and you are now in Vista, that may be the problem.

Hooping system?  I utilize the Brother hoops.   99.9% of the time, I work hoopless; in other words, I hoop the stabililzer and lay my item on top of that but not within the hoop.  For myself, it works much better.  Personal choice.  You have to do what you feel most comfortable in doing.

Not sure, but you may try YouTube.com also for any viewing of embroidery machines and techniques of embroidery.  I know the new Brother Quattro 6000D is up on YouTube.  I viewed a video for the 4000D way back prior to purchasing.  I bet that is still out there.  Might check on that.....that way, you may not feel so intimiated.  It really is an easy machine to operate.

Don't apologize for asking questions.  Ask away.  There are always ladies on the forum who can help.  And, ATG Customer Support can help as well.

Yes, i do have my manual.  i guess i was all over the place with my earlier question. here is the deal  I have a computer that i had installed the basic program with all the updat6es through version 6.  that computer crashed and i can only find my basic and version 6 but now for i can not get my card reader to find the designs  and load them to the machine.

Hooping..... how do you get the machine to work without the hoop, when i tried that it keeps asking me to load the hoop.

Thank you so much for taking time to help out a newbie!!

With regard to hoop-less embroidery.  The term refers to hooping the stabilizer only and then attaching the item being embroidered to the stabilizer.  You can use sticky back stabilizer or temporary spray adhesive for machine embroidery.

Here is a visual for using sticky-back stabilizer  http://www.windstarembroidery.com/embroidery-information.cfm?File=Sticky

If the computer crashed and you did not have your designs/files backed up on a CD or Removable Flash Drive, there most likely aren't any files for the card reader to find.

Try downloading a new design/file and try the reader again.

I live near Salem, OR and my Babylock dealer also sells Pfaff, Bernina and Janome.  They sponsor sewing and/or serger clubs and we pay an annual fee plus $10-$15 for each club session which includes materials and the lesson from a very qualified instructor.  We also get a discount on supplies in the store, plus other stores in the area who honor our club members with a 10% discount.  The club welcomes anyone with a machine, no matter the brand.

My mother-in-law passed away 3 years ago and left my child all her sewing machines and everything that went with it........I mean everything.  My daughter is still young and really not interested, so I started learning on my own her Janome 11000, because when I called for lessons they were $125.

I also learned on my own.  But it was on the first embroidery machine ever sold at Walmart - the Brother PE150.  I later updated to a BabyLock with a larger stitching area and sold the PE on Ebay.

Was the price you were quoted for several lessons?

Here is a site that has online lessons - http://www.embroidery-academy.com/

Re: Going rate for embroidery lessons

Learning is a challenge.  I think that for a single lesson that is high, but for a series of perhaps 4, it is close to the going rate.  My latest blog, which will be out on Friday, talks about the 'so called experts.'  I have dealt with some and there is one well known on the Internet that I disagree with often.  You will know the name (no, I won't say) and I wish her well but she often comes up with unworkable things.

Seek a group of embroiderers in your area.  There are a lot of them around, especially if you are in a good sized town.  I would call every sewing center in your area and ask if they have an embroidery club.  Attend and learn!!!  I got my first machine in December of 2001 - shortly after 9/11.  I still learn something when I go to my local club.  They meet monthly and share their projects.

Return often here to AnnTheGran.  Between the blogs and the Forum, there are so many good people with good information.  Many of the other sites don't have the excellent organization of the blog/forum that we enjoy here.

Read my Forum Instruction for the PE700.  While it is for a Brother machine, it really applies to any machine you may have.

Best of all, enjoy this gift that your mother-in-law gave to you.  She wanted to pass down a treasure to her grandchild.  I understand that the child is not interested, and now you get the wonder of machine embroidery for you.

If you are interested in selling your projects, you can determine your costs and profits quickly with my Spreadsheet.

If you want a lot of great information on working easier, faster and more confidently on your computer, check out my Tips and Tricks.

If you want to see my pashminas (that I successfully sell retail) check them out here. I also wholesale them.

Re: Going rate for embroidery lessons

The $125 was per hour.  Yesterday I was given the price of $60 per hour, which I will take next week.  There are just a few things I need to be clear on so I can continue.  Thanks for the responses.
