Hello all! I am new to the embroidery world but have been doing my research! I have "narrowed" it down between the brother se 400 and the brother pe 770-- my question is can both machines embroider monograms with free software/designs from the internet or do I need to purchase something like alphabet xpress to achieve these results as pictured below?? ( I'm really leaning towards the se 400 for the sewing machine capability and price... ) Confused

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hello All! I am new to the embroidery market and would really appreciate some help!! I have done alot of research and have narrowed it downt to either a brother se 400 (price and sewing component are key here..) or the brother pe 770 (price is a con but 5x7 field is pro..)-

My question is which machine is best suited to do projects like the picture I uploaded or are both equally capable right out of the box with free internet designs/inexpensive designs that can be downloaded or would either machine need a program like alphabet xpress to achieve these results... any help/info would be appreciated!

That hoop is really specialized.  However, I think that you can find some designs at emblibrary.com.  I would check in the $.99 tab because a really small design is likely to be less expensive.  I would search for 'miniature' there as well.

I made them from pre-folded diapers.  I embroidered my design onto a piece of fabric measuring the length of the diaper plus 3 inches and the width of the center section of the diaper plus 2 inches.  After the embroidery is completed I remove the tearaway stablizer and center the piece on the diaper, fold over the top and bottom, fold in the sides and top stitch all around.  This way there are no stitches on the reverse of the diaper and it looks neater.  Good Luck!  Fr. I really would like to see a photo of what you are doing.  I am not good with reading and translating into correct diagram.

Please send in a photo, I need it.

    Re: Burp Cloths

The one thing I learned is to use 6ply prefolded diapers.  These seem to hold the embroidery better and do not get misshapen as bad when washed.  I did basic appliques, wording and a matching bottom fold of fabric.

Basically it's just the underside of the design.  Use a tearaway or soluable stabilizer.

I use prefolded diapers from Walmart and sew cute ribbon on each end, then embroidery design to match.  Add their name of course to personalize.

Do you prewash the diapers before you embroider on them?  I bought some diapers and washed them and they are horribly wrinkled.

    Thanks for your reply,

I take them straight out of the package.  A warm iron and starch should get you in shape again.

    Re: Burp Cloths

I didn't have a pattern when I did one.  I took cute fabric and cut enough to cover the diaper plus a amall seam.  then I took a strip of the cute fabric about 3 inches wide and the width of the diaper.  I had a font that was outlines. I hooped the strip to the diaper then embroidered the baby's name. then I used applique scissors to trim the extra fabric away.  Then I sewed the cute fabric to the other side of the diaper.  It turned out nice.

    Re: Burp Cloths

Those are really great!  I like the coordination and that font is just right for a baby's gift!

The best news is that the software and font are 40% off right now!!!  Fonts are never inexpensive.  If you do find them cheap, that means you have to put each letter into your word individually.  With AlphabetXpress, you just hgave to type.  That is great if you want to say something like "We love you, Henry!"

go to www.etsy.com/shop/seamslikeheaven to see how I made prefolded diapers into burp cloths.  Just make sure you prewash your diapers prior to putting your design on it.

Where did you find authentic Dr. Seuss designs that can be stitched out and sold?
