Windows 7 problem with Alphabet Xpress software

My old computer with Windows XP home died and I had to buy a new computer.  New computer has Windows 7 Home Premium on it.  I downloaded my Alphabet Xpress software & 4 of the fonts I had purchased.  5 of the fonts I couldn't DL (I am still working on that).  Also, when I open up the Alphabet Xpress Program and click on open a file - the file opens up with no icons just what looks like a white sheet of paper with the corner folded down.   When I click on a design the icon appears in the preview box.  Has anyone had the same experience and have any suggestions on how to fix this.   Will there be any updates to run this program on Windows 7?  I have really loved using Alphabet Xpress.  It was my favorite lettering program.  Any help appreciated.     Margie

Problem with Alphabet Xpress & fonts on Windows 7 Home Premium

Just had to purchase new computer and it has Windows 7 Home Premium on it.  I downloaded my Alphabet Xpress software
& 4 of the fonts I had purchased successfully.  5 of the fonts I couldn't install & am still working on that problem.
Also, when I open up Alphabet Xpress software and click on open file.  My emb file for that design opens up but the
designs don't show an icon - just what looks like a white sheet of paper with the corner curled.  When I click on a
design the icon shows in the preview box.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  On my Windows XP it always showed all the icons.
Will there be an update to Alphabet Xpress for Windows 7 home?

You will need to send this question to ATG Support.  Click on Contact at the bottom of any screen on this site.

Re: Problem with Alphabet Xpress & fonts on Windows 7 Home Premium

In June, I contacted ATG Support by phone and confirmed the problem was also present in their Windows 7 64 bit PC.

The problem was then escalated to the next level of support at the Company that created Alphabet Express.

Yesterday, an email requesting a status was sent to ATG Support and the Company that created Alphabet Express.

An email response  was received today from the Company that created Alphabet Express indicating the Windows 7 operating system software as the most likely cause of this problem.  To confirm this the Company that created Alphabet Express suggested ATG Support try Alphabet Express on a Windows XP PC.  I am waiting for the results of this check....

FYI - Alphabet Express has always worked on my old Windows XP PC that was replaced by my new Windows 7 64 bit PC which exhibits the problem I have with Alphabet Express.

    • Does anyone on the Forum have this problem?
    • Can anyone on the Forum help to solve this problem?

    Thanks....

To close on the fix for my problem....

After much head-scratching, I contacted Support for the SewIconz program where I was experiencing the problem (i. e. - my problem was not seeing the embroidery image in the embroidery file icon when using Alphabet Express).

As it turns out Windows 7 is (indirectly) the cause of the problem.

The SewIconz vendor knew immediately what the cause was.
That is - when I switched from my old 32 bit Windows XP PC to my new 64 bit Windows 7 PC I should have loaded with the 32 bit version of SewIconz. I had only installed the 64 bit version of SewIconz thinking that this was all that was needed for my 64 bit Windows 7 PC to work properly.

So, too summarize, both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of SewIconz are required on 64 bit Windows 7 PC.

Re: Problem with Alphabet Xpress & fonts on Windows 7 Home Premium

This is a big problem with Windows 7.  Any time one tries downloading ATG Fonts in Windows 7, which is 64 bit, they simply don't load.  The last time I purchased some fonts I had to have a call from "tech support".  I dislike continuing to bother them.

I tried following the previous directions and once again my new font files don't show up when I open the program.  The directions had something to do with sending the file to the desktop, which I attempted to do.  Apparently it has to do with WHEN you send that file to the desktop in the process of downloading.  It seems that this is a big enough problem that it should be addressed somewhere in the help files when downloading new fonts.  Seems to me that somewhere in the downloading directions ATG should have the download steps for Windows 7.

    Any ideas out there?

I certainly can see your frustration.  Never think you are bothering Support, that is their job. . . . Without you, they don't have a job.

One thing you need to be sure is to place the font files in the right place.  That is probably your problem.

Save them in the same place as mine (I have the same system as you have noted):

    C:\\program files (x86)\annthegran\alphabet xpress\fonts

Then right click and press Extract.  When you reopen AX, they will be there.
