Hi All ,
Me again!
Just got back from the vet after two hours, and the kitty is doing a bit better but she says he has pancreatitis and irritable bowel syndrome,in other words, not real good.He weighs 17 LBS! She said she thinks we got to it quickly before it got really bad so she filled him with anti-biotics,fluids and of all things pepcid AC . Can you believe it,LOL. At least he is walking a little better, when I took him in he was walking like he was drunk and running into everything. Tom just about had heart failure when I told him it was 419.25 for the vet bill. She also said that if he is not better by tomorrow that we may have to make a decision about him. It is not one I want to make I am sure of that, but cannot stand to see him suffer either.
Kath,ok, you are going to laugh when I tell you where I get them. I actually get them from Walmart, they are a bit thicker and are all cotton. The good news is they don't shrink much when washed and they wear like iron. My step daughter has had hers for (get this) 5 years. Her husband told me he is ashamed to put them out as they are down to about nothing now and full of holes but Shana just cannot give them up. She loves them for dishes(she does not have a dish washer) I got some new ones when I was in Michigan at a store called Meijers, for those of you who have never been in one they are similar to a Wallmart but with more groceries. I really miss those stores here a lot. Any way I got them up there for $4.49 for 5 towels, and I pay $5.50 for them at walmart for 5 of them.
Lynn, Ok you're going to laugh at this one too.(ok I'm cheap,LOL) I take a good bath towel then measure out 13 " across the width of it the full length of the towel. I take the larger of the two pieces, then measure out 17" twice I can usually get two bibs out of one towel. then I measure 5 1/2 " from the center of the one bib to make the hole and slit. I make a 3 1/4 " circle with the 5 1/2 " aligning with the end of the 51/2 " mark as the center of the circle. I then cut the slit and the circle out. then I sew on the embroidery, after serging the rough ends of the towel so it does'nt fray. When all of that is done for both bibs, I then sew a nice edging on the part that had the rough ends,I use a zigzag stitch or just leave it serged with matching thread,I do the same for around the circle and those ends as well, basically anything that I think may fray or look bad. then at the top of the slit sides I sew on matching velcro. Done, you have a nice terry bib that is totally washable and usable. Ok , now to get the most out of your towel,LOL I use the other long piece to make the burp cloth with. It makes a nice long burp cloth for Mom or Dad . My biggest complaint with my kids when they were little was not having something long enough for a burp cloth, they always managed to have it running down the back of my shirt, so I made these and they worked great. I sew the rough edge again with either a zigzag or just serge it . I sew a nice embroidery on it,or put the baby's name on it ,let your imagination run wild here! And your burp cloth is done. It takes less than an hour to do all of them, I also always have a small piece of the towel left over so I serge it ,sew a small design on it like a rubber duckie or something and make a wash cloth too. None of the towel goes to waste that way. All of this is completely washable and usable. I also make changing pads as well. I take a bath towel, cut it in half, serge the rough edge ,sew an embroidery on it,then on the back I have some of that rubbery shelving stuff that I sew to the back to absorb anything wet and plus it stays where you put it and does'nt move around. You can get two changing pads from one towel. I had to learn to be inventive when the kids were small as I was a single Mom and had very little money,so I improvised. I have found too, that buying a couple of decent towels is much less money than buying a few yards of terry cloth.I will make you a pattern to bring with me on Saturday so you can have it . I also have another bib I do as well that is a little fancier for those special occasions as well, also made out of either terry or cotton. You can use these patterns with any thing you want really. I chose terry because of it's durability. So ,out of one bath towel, I get ,two bibs,a burp cloth and and a wash rag too.You can make the whole set for the price of a bath towel and a little time.I will bring a set with me on Saturday so you can see them, they are adorable.
Well back to the sewing room, now that Kitty(his name is Smack, because he is a little ornary)In fact the vet saod she hopes he is better by tomorrow as he was quite the handful for her, sort of like the tasmanian devil cat, lol.
Later all.......have a wonderful day and as always.................Happy Stitching!
