Sandra,
You couldn't have said it any better... we may be hmmm "old" but never to old to learn a lot of new tricks. I'm anxious to see smocking done in the hoop. Kath, you better bring a sample I haven't tried that.
Marsha,, I always look at what I'm doing and think it's just wonderful, then I see someone else's creation and I feel it's hidious, plain and not worthy of anyone's praise.. I just finished a piece and it's "ok" but then again it's been a few years since I've done any smocking so getting back on the horse was a little shaky, just like when I first started 4 years ago. The more you do the better you get at it, the more you improve the more creative. Plain and simple.
As for stabilizers... there are SO many on the market, after hunting web sites, I'm still partial to Pellon Tear and Wash, they've changed labeling on me so I'm not sure which it is anymore (2302 or 2303), I've emailed the company but as usual, they haven't responded. I hate Sulky tear away, it's thin and it feels like you are trying to Rip away your design.. HA Floriani seems to be putting out something like I want, only need one piece for most items to be embroidered and then they have it in a variety of flavors, wet and stick, tear away and cut away.. YES SO many choices, we'll get to have that discussion Sat.the 19th
Haven't pin pointed any one other in Jacksonville that carries Floriani so can't touchy feely it.. LOL Got to touch to know if it's the right thing..
Ann, you wouldn't happen to have a few samples you could bring for show and tell would you??? It's always nice to get the opinions and ideas of those that do a lot of embroidery to get a grasp of what to use for different applications. I'm sure a dedicated embroidery machine uses stabilizer differently than our sewing machine/embroidery machines. Judy might have a different spin on what works better for her as well. One size does NOT fit all.
You ladies have a great day, I have to venture into the big city today, and that's the last until after the weekend.
Good thing I don't have to get gas... yet ugh
Happy Sewing ! !
