    applique embroidery designs

I have downloaded many applique embroidery designs. I understand the designs that have applique position and applique material next to each other, but I don't understand tha designs that have appilque position and applique material scattered through the color instructions. Does it mean something different to do with the material or position?

My experience has been that the design has you tack and trim all the elements of the design and then it goes back and does the finishing satin stitch at one time.

Yes, it gives you an outline or cutting line as it tacks the fabric down.  Then you take it off and cut around the edge, put it back on the machine to do the next stage.  It will then satin stitch around it.  All the designs are different though, make sure you see the outline and put the material down then and not before.  Play around with it, that's how I learned.  Good Luck!
