I thought I understood how to upload my photo that would show up in my posts but now I can't figure out how to do it.  Can anyone explain how to do this to me?  Thanks, Joyce

    Re: photo

    Hi, Joyce,

The photo that shows up in your profile is called an avatar, in tech-speak. It is very easy to upload one, as follows:

    1. From somewhere in our Community section (Blogs, Forums, Photos), click on 'Sign In' at the top right of the page, and log in with your username and password.

    2. In the top right corner of the page, you will now see your profile name and a link called 'Edit Profile'. Click on 'Edit Profile'.

    3. On the profile that comes up, click on the 'Avatar' tab.

    4. Make sure it says 'Avatars Enabled' and then use the 'Browse' button to locate the picture on your computer that you want to use as your avatar.

    5. Click on 'Save' and your avatar should appear in your profile within a few minutes.

    Hope this helps.

    Greg

Thank you BB.  You can see your help worked.  I was using the update button instead of save.  Joyce

    Re: picture

Don't forget, an avatar can be a picture of anything, it does not have to be you.  I have used picts of my grandchildren, my favorite embroidery designs and even landscapes, fruit bowls or wildlife.

Show us your other favorite things!!

    Re: picture

Mary, Since you have a really beautiful Avatar, I am going to assume that you are having problems with the "Projects" pictures.

Then, it looks like you followed my directions .  When I first was doing these photos, I got the "dreaded red X" from time to time.  I don't know what your issue is, but typically, it is that your picture is too large.  The way to get that information from your photos is to hold the mouse pointer over the photo and, after a few seconds,  you will see the 'properties' of that photo.

A typical and size easy for the computer to handle would be about 640 x 480 and size of 50.0 kb.  These can be somewhat larger and certainly smaller, but if it is something like 4032 x 3024 and size 4.98 MB, that is too large for many programs and general computer usage.

If your pictures are too large you will be having problems sending them via email to family and friends too.  So, it is to your advantage to have them smaller.  You may already have a software program on your computer to do this.  If not, Greg recommends IrfavView, I personally recommend Kodak.  Both are excellent, but I feel that Kodak is more user friendly.  That, of course, is a personal (and humble) opinion.

I can assist you further if you are still having problems.  Just let me know.  You are going to be able to do this soon, just give us time to clear up any issues preventing your ability to upload.

Pat, my problem was with the avatar picture. I was saving it before it was completely downloaded. Joan helped me through it. Thank everyone that chiped in,

    Re: Profile

The site has had some changes in the last few days and the method is a little different.

    1. Go to your profile - In the upper right corner, you should see your user name.  Click on that link.
    2. On the left side of that profile, see "Options."  Select that link.
    3. You will see the place to browse your computer for your avatar.  Be sure that the 'avatar enabled' is selected as 'yes.'

Don't forget, your avatar can be a photo of anything.  I look forward to seeing what you have chosen.
