    Embroidering on diaper burp cloths

What is the best way to do this? What kind of stabilizer...needle...should you use a soluable topping?

I have made several diaper burp cloths with embroidery.  I use a spray on fabric stablizer.  Spray on heavily, then allow to dry.  Also, if additional stablizer is needed, use a tear-away stabilizer.  I have been very pleased with the results.  I also found that it is best to keep the design simple because of the weave of the diaper material.

I do this quite often with my brother se350 machine, and I don't use any stabilizer.  It works just fine and holds up with washing, just make sure the diaper is tight in the hoop.

I don't use any stabilizer with burp cloths either; they are very sturdy on their own.  I just put a watersoluable topper so the stitches don't sink.

I'm jumping in with a question/comment.  I'm somewhat new to machine embroidery too.  I've made several diaper burp cloths and used a tear away on the bottom and a wash away on the top.  I did not know that you could embroider without a stablizer.  What sort of fabrics do not require a stablizer?

If you are embroidering on two layers or more, you may not need stabilizer if the additional layers help stabilize the top layer.

What works and what does not - trial and error - I would do a sample first.

I have emboidered several diaper burp cloths using a lightweight tear away stabilizer under the diaper. I have hooped the diaper, and have been very pleased with the results. I usually sew a ribbon trim on the bottom edge, and have added them to recent baby shower gifts where they were warmly recieved by the Moms to be! This is a fun and quick project.  Happy stitching!

I wanted to take a minute to respond with an answer that may help you. I own an emboridery business and evey day I meet new embroiderers and I am so excited for them to learn the proper way to stabilize fabrics because it will save  you wear and tear on your machine, trips to the dealership for reapair and your embroidery will look beautiful when the proper stabilizer is used.  In our shop we use tear away backing for burp cloths/cloth diapers and a water soluble on top.  The combination of these two stabilizers will give you great results.

Please do use good judgement and always use stabilizer, it was created for a reason and for those of us who have been embroidering for 10 plus years we remember a time when no stabiizer was available to home sewers, we had to make do and our embroidery always looked shabby. Please, please visit your local dealer and seek stabilier help from a professional, the web is great but taking advice about something this important should be done in a delaership where they can direct you, there are over 100 stabilizers available on the market.

Good luck, I am very happy for you and wish you all the best.

I have found that a sewing machine dealers will sell you whatever brand of stabilizer they happen to stock.

You will find the stabilizers sold at this site have been tested by a designer/digitizer - ATG!

I use a tear away stabilizer on the bottom in the hoop.  The diaper won't fit in my hoop so I align the diaper in the hoop and spray a small amount of the spray fabric adhehisive onto the stabilizer and align the diaper on top of it.  Put your hoop in the machine and embroider as usual.  No problems.  It has come out fine.  (I tried putting the clear stabilizer on top of my first one,  like with towels, but found there was no need).  Hope this helps.  Good luck.
