    Centering problems

I don't know if this is the correct forum for this question.  It does not seem to fit into any other category.

I always have trouble with centering.  I have some centering tools, but somehow, I still have problems.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Centering problems

    Hi Sue,

There are many kits on the market for centering items for embroidery.

After years of creasing slightly and placing a straight pin (embroidery purists are probably cringing) on two sides of the item to center within the hoop, I treated myself to Place 'n Stitch.  This is offered on Ann the Gran.

Place 'n Stitch offers a spiral bound book with massive amount of shapes and sizes; CD included.  You match your item to be embroidered to any one of them in the book.  Transfer that to your machine and place your design within.  I have been using for 3 years and absolutely love it.  I also still use the straight pin method (shudder) but don't wish to teach a newcomer my bad habits!

I am sure there will be more suggestions for you on this from others.

    Re: Centering problems

    Hi Sue,

First I guess I would ask what item you want to center? For towels, fold in half length wise and mark with a pin, that would be your true center for the. Articles of clothing are bit more difficult. I have found that the embroiderers buddies work well for shirts, blouses at the chest area, or left or right of the chest. Again it just depends on what you want to center. For the back of a shirt, I simply fold in half and mark it with a pin, then I measure to the right and left to check that I have true center. Once you have done a few times it becomes easier.

    Here are some guidelines for you to follow for putting designs to the right or left of a shirt or blousez;

for a man'sXL &XXL 9" down from the left shoulder and 4.5" right of center

Women's S<M<L 6.5" down from left shoulder and 4" right of center

XL&XXL 7" dow from left shoulder and 4" right of center

Childs 4"-6" down from left shoulder seam and 2.5 - 3" over from center

Hope this helps and I know many will have some wonderful and fabulous tips for you  Smile

    Re: Centering problems

    Hi, Sue.

The only tool I have ever used is the hoop template.  And I don't always use it.  Instead I mark center and align with the raised notches on the hoop, then I use jog feature on the EM to make sure of the hooping.

Marking center:  I use a sticker, blue painter's tape or a temporary fabric pen.  On the sticker or tape, I mark a bold  +   for center.  With the pen, I put the + directly on the fabric.  These are pens that disapear or need to be moistened to dissolve - never iron over the mark as it can become permanent.

Hope we have provided something that will work for you.

Thanks to everyone.  I marked the 'email me replies' but did not get any emails.  Is this normal?

    Hello Sue,

Did you mark "Yes" on all the areas within the Email Configuration in your profile?  Once marked and SAVED, emails should be sent to you.
