I am thinking of selling my used emb machine

I would like to know where I might do that.  I know I cannot do that here, but I cannot think of another place to sell it.

Ebay is a lot of work to set up and Craigs List does not really have a craft category at all.  I just want a fair price, it is a used Brother.  It is 3 years old.  I have a newer machine.  It is the PE700.

Does anyone have an idea as to what I might ask for it.  I have the manual.  I would give my PED-Basic with it.

thanks, I just can not figure out where to start.  I do want it to have a happy home.Smile

    Hi, Sue.

I live in the Cincinnati area and I have seen sewing machines advertised on Craigslist.  You might start with a search of sewing machines - beware, most are dogs.  At least that it what I have seen in the past.

    Good luck with your sale.

    Hello Sue,

Glad to see your are 'visiting' all for the Forums.

Personally, I have sold two machines thus far on Ebay and need to sell a serger in Sep and will also be doing so on Ebay.  If you prefer a customer pick-up, that can also be arranged on Ebay as well.

I have also purchased two brand new machines through Ebay with much success.

Although, I am currently checking Craig's List in my area for a Quattro, I shy away from that avenue.

To get some idea of what your machine is worth on the market these days; check out Ebay and you can judge from the ones selling there; new, used, etc.

    Good Luck.

    Thanks Pattiann.

I am going to try Craigslist because it is free and that is a great price.

    Hello -

I had gone to sewitsforsale.com a few times in the past.  Was a slow-moving classified ad site.  I believe the domain is up for sale.  Not sure, but do not believe it is in existence any longer.  Please correct me if I am wrong.  Would like to look for another avenue for sales other than Ebay and Craig's List for selling machines also.

A word of caution to anyone reading this discussion - ATG forums are for discussion only.

I have been advised by site administrators that posts involving sales via this site will not be approved for viewing.

No one in the current discussion has even hinted doing a personal sale, but new members who are reading this post may not be aware of this.

Re: I am thinking of selling my used emb machine

Joan, I have not personally used any of the options other than Ebay.  I sold a Brother 150 several months ago and Ebay kept a good piece of the money as a fee.

I have never sold anything so expensive, so maybe that has been the rule all the while and I did not know it.

I had only sold a few sewing magazines in the past.....not a big "Ebay-er"....too may "iffy" sellers.

I have read of sewing machine dealers selling a machine for the owner, but I think it would be vary rare occasion to find a dealer willing to do this....maybe if they originally sold the machine in question.

I am leery of strangers coming to my home, so that kinda leaves me back with Ebay.

Pattiann - I hope I did not break any rules.  I was hoping for suggestions because of embroidery machines having such a small market.

I too am leery of strangers coming to my home, so I am still thinking about what to do.  I am not an Ebay fan.

Re: I am thinking of selling my used emb machine

    Hello:

Unfortunately, Ebay is the only avenue I have currently to sell any large items.  Yes, PattiAnn, they do have a sizeable fee when the item being sold is in the 3-figure range.  Fees have gone up quite a bit since I first joined.  Tried boycotting along with other Ebay-ers; however it was useless.  They have sellers over a barrel.  Between that and the increase in the shipping costs; complaints from buyers abound.

However, I would never sell on Craig's List spefically for the reason you stated PattiAnn.  I do not care to have anyone at my home.  It is not sometimes that particular person; but who they may know and relay to.  Especially for machines...person would have to actually come into your home and test-drive it.  That is why I stated I view Craig's List but would not list there.  My particular area is very safe, but............

I did purchase two machines on Ebay and was very successful.  I have also sold 3 machines on Ebay and was successful.  Sad thing now is that used machines are not bringing in any great amount.  There are so many new machines within reasonable price range in the market place.

www.sewitsforsale.com may no longer be available.  Also, selling in Yard/Garage Sales in my area ---- would never even contemplate selling a machine.  Everyone wants it for $1.00 and me carry to their car to boot!!  Tongue Tied.  So that is not an option to me either.

I don't have an answer for you Sue!  It will have to be what you feel comfortable doing.  Good luck in selling your machine.

    Sue,

I just remembered a site my daughter told me about.  Completely forgot about it.  Listing is free.

I think you can also post for free on ioffer.com but think they may charge a niominal fee when you sell item, but is no where near what e-bay charges

Help me to start each day with a new attitude and plenty of gratitude!
