    New Owner

I just purchased a new pe700II from allbrands.com. I'm technology challenged and having a heck of a time learning how to work this machine. I just want to embroider my own work shirts with my company name. Can I create the logo on a computer in word or something and then embroider it. The logo encompasses 4 lines.

    Hiya Milo!

I bought a PE700ii about 5 weeks back (Im not technology challenged tho HOWEVER I had never touched a sewing machine in my life before!!).

I would advise to  practice first on scraps of denim or linen.

To create a personalised logo you would need to purchase the software for the machine as it allows you to convert any .jpeg image into .pes which is a embroidery based image, The software is pricey (£225/$500).

I don't mind converting it for you but I'm unsure how you can get it onto your machine without a Brother Memory Card.

    Hello Milo7,

I am not familiar with the PE700II but understand it is an easy machine to handle.  I own two other Brother embroidery/sewing machines and absolutely love the ease of the machines to operate.

Do follow through with your Manual in the steps that may confuse you.  Brother manuals are very easy to comprehend.  If you have further questions, do not hesitate to contact Brother via their 800#.  Their support team if fabulous.  They will walk you through any problem you may have.

For your company logo, you would need to have a digitizing software program compatible to your machine.  I am not so certain the PE700II has that capability.  You can check this out on the Brother website.  Each machine is listed with all the accessories that are compatible with that particular machine.

Also, not so sure how strict your company would be in allowing their logo to be copied.  You may have to seek permission to do so.  There are legal boundaries with this.  My company logo was a warm red that would have been difficult to duplicate in the embroidery thread world.

Good Luck with your machine - once you get going, you will love it.

    Hi, Milo.

Open the owner's manual and try every feature with the book open and next to the machine.  Reading in advance is just plain boring and confusing.

Play with the fonts in the machine.  I do not know if the 700 does entire words or lines of words without additional software.

You can combine a design, such as a logo and lettering with this program (free trial) - http://www.annthegran.com/Product.aspx?t=1&i=2567

If this is your company and you own the logo, you can have the logo and lettering digitized for machine embroidery or give it a try yourself.  This is a free trial - http://www.annthegran.com/Product.aspx?t=1&i=2206

If you do not own the logo and your employer does, they may already have the digitized design on a cd. They may, or may not let you use it.

If they do, most likely it will be in a format other than .pes, which is what is needed for Brother embroidery machines.

Machine embroidery format .dst is used by most commercial embroidery shops. You can use Pulse Ambassador (free download) to convert non .pes machine embroidery formats to .pes.  http://www.pulsemicro.com/ambassadordownload

Downloads or uploads can be sent to the EM (embroidery machine) via the USB direct connect cable that came with the EM.

Try a few free downloads (the Brother site has several you might like to try).  http://www.brother-usa.com/HomeSewing/GetCreative/free-designs.aspx

Before loading designs to the hard drive, create a folder with Windows OS and name it something like, Embroidery.

Then go to the sites or load a CD with designs and send to "Embroidery" folder.

Each design is a file and you may want to rename those if they are difficult to identify.  When changing a file name, if it includes .pes, be sure to add that.

Back up the Embroidery folder on a flash drive or CD and update every time you add or make changes to the Embroidery folder on the hard drive.

There are many things you may pick up right away and not have any problems, but if you do, please post and we will do our best to help.

WOW!  You don't want much, do you???

An experienced machine embroiderer would have a full plate with all that you want to do.

The offers of assistance from all the above people is a great start.  May I suggest that you go to this forum post to do a simple first project.  There is much you need to know to accomplish all that you want to do.  Unfortunately, it is not really simple.

Read lots of forum titles that sound like they may give you info for you and yours machine.  I recommend that you read some of my blogs, because they are full of information and ideas.

Play with your machine, but get the logo professionally digitized, you won't regret it.  Ask a lot of questions here in the forum.  You are about to join the select group of Machine Embroiderers who have an addiction to this beautiful craft.
