New to machine embroidery, getting my feet wet, and is Embird a good product?

    Hi,

I'm pretty new to machine embroidery and am having fun learning all about it.

I have a few questions, though.  I have a Brother se350, and found I had to purchase the PED programs, and so I bought the PED basic.(the one I can afford!)  So far, its all i really want.  I dont want to design my own, I'm very happy using designs that others who are more skilled at that make, and they come out so pretty!

But I found a couple bigger designs than my 4 x 4 hoop, and need to learn how to split them. I am told that the EMBIRD program will split it for me.  However, I'm wondering if there are other programs to choose from that offer free trials as well.  I tried to d/l the embird and my computer said the file was not good.So i thought perhaps I needed to chekc out others as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions?  All I really want to do is be able to split the designs so I can use bigger patterns.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for all your help.:)

    Debbie:)

Re: New to machine embroidery, getting my feet wet, and is Embird a good product?

Welcome to the wonderful world of machine embroidery (ME) and AnnTheGran (ATG). ME is the most fun craft, it is beautiful, and creative, you are going to fall in love!

I suggest that you get your feet a little more wet before you try splitting designs.  It is something that requires a lot of patience.

Embird does split,  as do other digitizing software programs.  I am not a fan of Embird, but I think I may be in the minority.  You have to try things yourself to see if it meets your requirements.

Many newbies want to digitize soon after they get into embroidery, that is another place that I recommend that you wait.

If you want your money to go further, may I recommend that you get a membership to Ann's Club and enjoy alll those free designs as well as an excellent source of stabilizers.  Stabilizers can become a bit pricey, so look into that Club.

Consider reading as much as you have the time to absorb.  I recommend my forum posting which is done on a PE700, but the instructions are generic for any machine.

Check out my blog when you get a minute.  You can read about stabilizers to free standing lace (FSL)

Read and ask a lot of questions, we were all where you are at one time or another.

Pat, thank you for your encouragement!!  I am already in love with ME, OMG it's all I think about ! :)  I don't have nearly enough time to do it, because when I'm at work, I can't wait to get home and use my machine.

Thank you for all your tips!  I agree, I have decided to wait to get into splitting. I have so much other new stuff to learn, and I'm going to sit back and enjoy all my new learning, step by step.  I agree that it's more than I need to know now.

I also agree about digitizing.  Since I decided to buy my machine a couple months ago, I have been reading and reading and reading.. but until now haven't found another person to share my excitement with, so I'm so happy that you have so much to share!

I did however, buy a PED basic so I can take any downloaded designs and use them on pieces now.

Thank you for all your encouragement, and for your suggestions and your links for me to read.  I am just now learning more about the different stabilizers, etc.  I'm reading and asking alot of quesitons, even at my local fabric store.

Its so great to have a place now to share my passion for ME!!

Thank you for your response!  I'll be reading your forum postings as well.  Thanks again!
