    Ravenswing_55,

If you don't plan to use the pocket as a pocket you can leave it in place.  You would then embroider the pocket to the garment.

If you don't want to do that then you will need to remove the pocket.  It would be very difficult if not impossible to keep the under layer out of the way of the stitching.

You can remove the stitching just from the bottom and sides of the pocket and embroider from there.  Leave the top corners attached and your pocket will be easy to stitch back to the garment.

    Hi, Raven.

If this is a shirt pocket or patch pocket, the top is usually reinforced and difficult to remove without damaging the garment.

As Pat has suggested, you could remove the stitching from the sides and bottom.

Flip the pocket out and away from the garment and use sticky back or 505 for hoop-less embroidery.

The pocket can then be sewn back onto the garment.

    Hope this helps.

    Raven,

    I came across this. http://www.nancysnotions.com/product/code/adp-66j.do?extid=090521T

Scroll down the page to the overview section, click on video demo tab to play video. They give a little video clip showing how to embroider on pockets.

Raven, thanks for that link for embroidering on pockets. I shop Nancy's Notions all the time and occasionaly watch some of the how to videos but had not seen this one. I have two shirts the I wanted to add embroidery to but had not been able to figure out how to without completely taking off the pocket. I was intimidated by that idea, so, still no embroidered pockets. Now that I have seen the video I am having a hard time sitting here and finishing this message because I am ready to dive in!

I am about to begin my summer vacation and plan to do a lot of sewing and embroidery because I have six granddaughters, one who made the cheerleading squad for next year and a one year old grandson that I want to make things for and do not usually have much time for that during the school year. Pockets are going to be my first project, thanks to you!
