    Digitizing in .ART

Hi All!  I'm trying to create a CD (with my designs digitized by me) to share with my friends  - .VP3 and .PES.  When I save the designs to those formats the designs look okay on my machine, but don't stitchout for my friends.    .JEF format is whole different can of worms.  The region I live in has only one sewing machine dealer, so I have no local resources and have exhaused my manufacturer's (and other machine mfgs) website.  Do any of you have any "pearls of wisdom for me?"

What do you mean by don't stitch out?  The format is not recognized and nothing stitches?

Have you tried saving the design in .dst and then converting to the other formats?

Hi Pattiann - Thank you for your response.  Some designs do not stitch out well.  For example:  one design has a gap between two objects - the proper push/pull compensation was applied (I digitize manually).  This design stitches out beautifully in several formats but not PES or JEF.  Other designs do not stitch out well in other formats.  No consistent problem (or I haven't "seen" it yet).  I have used different methods for conversion, including (but not limited to) 1.  saving as DST  2.  Using Pulse Ambasador  3.  box gadget  4. buzz tools.  Some of these tools work well for others (according to what I have read online).

Raven, I wish I had a great answer for your dilemma.

Perhaps someone will have a solution or sound answer as to why this is happening.

I have never taken classes for digitizing, but find John Deer fascinating.

I have his book, which addresses gaps, but it would not seem to apply to your designs as they are stitching out perfect in the original format.

Just guessing, but it sounds like it is in the software's translation from .art to the other formats.  Great big DUH on my part?

Have you tried other brands of software - there are a few with free trials?

Thank you, Pattiann - I think my software does not play well with others.  I've heard these problems are not so pronounced in other software packages.  I've just downloaded Masterworks trial - the digitizing environment is very different than others I've worked in - I need to spend a little time getting used to the tools and using them.  I'm also looking at commercial software as I am something of a perfectionist - and I am tired of paying premium price for poorly digitized designs.  Some of my friends (after working with my designs) are commenting on things they see while stitching out designs that they just know I would not like one little bit (fussy old lady syndrome).

There is a newbie on the market.  It is from Ken Parsons.  I have been working with the trial version and found it easy to use and very accurate in stitching.   I find Ken's work to be extremely detailed oriented, I feel like he is a perfectionist as well.

Even if I do need to make adjustments, this one is easy to work with. It is also not the most expensive on the market, and that matters a lot to me.

Hey Pat, as you may know, I know nothing about digitizing and if this is a dumb question, please answer it anyway.Haha. Is the subject here about when you have an idea for a design and how to get it into a emb formate.?  Do you have to have the proper software for this?  As I said. I know nothing about this.

My grandson keeps wanting  to have some idea  of his put into formate and I can't help him, because I know nothing about it, If this makes any sence to you, maybe you can help me understand.

    Thank you.

You will need machine embroidery digitizing software.

    Pat has suggested Ken Parsons.

Here is another reputable brand that has a free trial - http://sewing.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.buzztools.com%2Fdefault.htm  Click on Software Downloads - never mind "page not found".

There will be instructions with the software.

You start with an art format, such as .jpg.

Try out the software with clip art, which can be downloaded from various sites on the Internet.

Thanks Pattiann, I downloaded the KP trial. It will proable take that long for me to understand most of it. Is there a way to set the size of design to inches instead of mm?  There is a print preview, but I couldn' get one to print. I will keep working on it I found the way to my files. but how do I make one of my own?

I didn't see a free trial on the link you sent. Is that one long link or is it 2?

You can see how green I am at this, but I won't give up. I hear so much about it lately.

    Thanks again,

    Mary

Oops, Mary..........wrong site (has been corrected).

This is the one I wanted to post - http://sewing.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.buzztools.com%2Fdefault.htm   Never mind "Page Not Found"  Click on Software Downloads.

There usually is an option of mm or inches.  Check the tool bar.  Not familiar with Parsons and it has been a long time since I used Buzz Tools.

I have PE Design 6.  I works for me, but the newer versions are probably easier.

I tried a trial of Designer's Gallery Custom Works Lite and it was super easy.  Tempting, but will stick with what I already have.

I down loadedthe Designer's Gallery and I think I would like it, if I could get all the bugs out. I spent the whole day working with it and I think it won. I don't give up, so wise me luck tomorrow. Thanks for your help.

Raven, I see you have downloaded Masterworks trial. So have I. Maybe you can help me out on this. When I saved the design, it won't let me put it on Ped basic or onto my machine with a USB. What does it mean about the file program? I don't realy know what program has all of my other emb files. I know this sounds crazy, but as you can see, I don't know anything about digitizing, but would love to learn.

I have sewn all my life, but this has whipped me.

    Thanks for you help.

I also downloaded KP, but it seems more complicated.

    Re: Digitizing in .ART

mjb 125m - Hi, I saved a design to a USB stick in PES and opened in ART - no problem.  I'm not familiar with Ped basic but have discovered that some home emb machines will only allow you to use a propritary usb stick.  That being said, you should be able to open an appropriate file type from any working usb stick on your computer.  Hopefully, someone out there will have another idea for you.
