That's a great idea, Rita. There have been even more requests than you see here but we've had to delete some of them because e-mail addresses have been included in the posts, which we do not accept to protect our users from spam. Click here for a more detailed explanation of why we do not allow e-mail addresses in posts.

Pat, it is actually possible to post an attachment in the forums. For instructions on how to do it (as well as how to post your own free designs), see:

    http://www.annthegran.com/cs/forums/p/200/380.aspx#380

The link above tells you how to post free designs in the General Discussion forum, but the instructions work the same for all forums. If you could post your Excel sheet here in this thread, Pat, I'm sure you'd have some instant fans!

Re: How much to charge for designs

    Here is the spreadsheet.

    Notes:

    • Save the document and make a copy to play with, it is always good to have a backup.
    • Do not enter numbers into the blue font cells.  You will destroy the formula.
    • My numbers are based on what I want to make in a month and how to achieve that goal.   I have two different numbers for that information, therefore, I have two columns.
    • Lines 48 and 49 are examples of my pricing.  Line 48 is for just the sew out and Line 49 includes a purchased apron in the total.

I hope this is helpful.   I do have different costs for family/friends, charity work and commercial work (and another cost for unpleasant clients...LOL)

Best wishes to you and yours, Pat

Thanks so much for sharing this, Pat.  I've downloaded it to my zip file.  Won't have a chance to look at it tonight since it's already 11:00, but hope to have time to "play" with it tomorrow.  Thanks again.

Re: How much to charge for designs

I have had some comments on this spreadsheet and most are finding it to be interesting and helpful.

One person did note on Line 28, the Markup Line, that if you entered "0" your results will end up being zero.  Obviously, anytime you multiply anything times "0" your answer will be zero.  In the event you are doing work for a family member, etc., you would not necessarily want to have a 'markup.'

I am not sure how that might be fixed.  You just have to put something there for the formula to work.  If anyone can see a way to make this work, I am open to suggestions.   The spreadsheet was geared to determine a fair market value for your work and will work for a high percentage of your needs.

Best wishes to you and yours, Pat
