If this info is already posted somewhere, I apologize, but I haven't found it anywhere. Do I HAVE to have a special program in order to download (free or purchased) designs? I have noticed that Catalog Xpress is somewhere in the neighborhood of $160 usd. Is this necessary in order to embroider at all? I have a Vista OS. Can someone point me in the right direction?

No special software is needed to download.

Catalog Xpress helps to sort and view (and a few more things) all designs you have on your PC.

There is a free trial, but you might want to get comfortable with downloading, saving and finding the designs, then using CX.

Create a folder in your documents for the downloads.  Then copy them to the method you are using for sending the designs to the embroidery machine  - card, floppy, cable or flash drive.

I also want you to know that Catalog Xpress is on sale this week - and it includes Alphabet Xpress FREE (I love that word!!!!!)  My latest blog gives a 'mini' tutorial on how easy these are to use.  All software should be this user friendly!!

There are many reasons to utilize both of these software, but downloading, as Pattiann says, does not require any software.

Here are a few of the reasons to have both of them (you will want to look at the links for a full list)

• Resizing designs
• Recoloring designs
• keeping track of your designs
• creating Monograms
• creating words for your design ("Best in Show" or "I Love You")

I already had other software when I joined ATG, so am not familiar with all the features of CX and I completly forgot about Alphabet Xpress and the combo sale.
