How can you tell there are hardly any free designs?  I though they were randomly added to the mix.

Thanks for your feedback. If you look in the New Designs category or search in Free Designs for "new designs", you'll see the 10 new designs we've added, and you'll see 10 new ones added there every week (ie. there will be 520 new ones in there by the end of 2009 - we already have them picked out). These designs have never been available for free download before and are all professionally digitized. They are available for download to all Ann's Club members.

    Thanks for the clarification.

When the request is made, the original screen comes back, but you have to scroll down the page to get the new designs.

Well, kind of our "duh" as well. We know the text at the top is long, and it will be shortened once everyone gets used to the new layout, but we felt it was important that with the service being newly implemented, everyone be required to read the message whatever page they were using to enter the site.

I agree!!!! If they are under the "FREE" section, they should be FREE!!!!! Eveyone "FREE" one I have tried to download takes me to a page saying only members can download, well I'm logged in and still can not download!!! I'm not sure if I will come back to this site.

Hi, Bonnie. Thanks for your comments. Since I've been with Ann (over four years now), we've made five major changes to the site, including this one. For each of the previous four, many users voiced displeasure initially about the changes because they had to change the way they got around the site. This is completely understandable, and, as always, we are committed to helping everyone through these types of transitions. However, this type of initial reaction is not justification for undoing changes that bring significant improvements to the site.

Quite often, all that is needed is a small tweak on our part or on a users' part and the particular problem goes away. Correct me if I'm wrong, but my guess is that most long-time users would now be hard-pressed to remember what they found so distasteful at the time about the other major changes, because they have now gotten used to them and enjoy using the site.

This particular set of changes (ie. to the Free Designs system) has been in the works for over a year, and was in fact included in the design specifications for our new site back in February 2008. The only reason it didn't come out as part of the new site is that it takes a lot of time and money to develop, maintain, and improve a site of the complexity and size of AnnTheGran.com, and we simply didn't get it done in the time frame we had hoped.

It is my hope that those in our Community who appreciate the site as a resource will continue to work with us so that we can make sure this recent change will go the way of previous changes, which is to say that in hindsight, it will prove to be a good thing for the overwhelming majority of our users.

    Greg

    FREEBIES

PLEASEEEEEEE.....if you are going to have Freebies let everyone dl them for free.  If you have to be a Member to dl, then put them on a page entitled FREE for MEMBERS ONLY.  It waste time trying to dl a design under FREEBIES only to find out you can only get it by being a member.

    Thank you, Penny Webb

    DL FREEBIES

PLEASE......don't list the MEMBERS ONLY FREEBIES with the ones that are REALLY FREE.  It waste time trying to dl a design and then get the message - FREE FOR MEMBERS ONLY message.  Just put these on a separate page entitled FREE MEMBERS DESIGNS.

    Thank you, Penny Webb

I am willing to wait and see what happens. Also Sorry you got so many notes from me. Each time I tried to send I got an error so I kept on trying. I thought none of them went through but I guess they did.

I guess us oldies don't like change too much but again I'm willing to see how it goes. I loved Ann's old site better but as you say we do get used to the new one after awhile.

I am sure that will happed with the new freebe site too.

    Thanks for replying.

I also agree, it is to hard to get what you are looking for.  I haven't been on line for sometime and this is not a good experiance.

    Re: free designs

I agree - everyone who donated designs should be compensated since the pretense that this

was free - Secondly, I hope they combed the designs for copyrighted designs - or they would

be liable now, since they are charging memberships to download.

I rarely come here anymore - other sights know the economy and are trying to do more- not less - for their

    viewers.

    MACPAT -

The free designs are not for sale.

You must have been coming in for the free stuff - your site membership date is recent and this is your first post.

No posts from you saying thanks for the designs, or I am an expert in copyright law, so I know how important it is to stress - no sharing or selling of designs without permission from the owner of said design.

The free/donated designs are not for sale and the owners have agreed to share (maybe in exchange for free advertising, I do not know) with those who choose to download their designs.

    BB -

I just recalled a long ago conversation with a dog trainer - I asked if it were true that you cannot teach an old dog new tricks and he replied, it is possible, it just takes a little longer.

I consider myself an "old dog" and sometimes it takes more than one attempt for me to "get it", but I believe if you don't keep trying and learning, you are going to get left in the dust.

Now - don't make me learn 2 tx - that is just plain lazy!   GDARFC

    Re: free designs

Well, in reality I have introduced hundreds of people to this site, I teach embroidery software and do know about copyright law in regards to designs.  My designs are free to sew out, sell on sold item but the design itself is not to sell in a collection.  I know digitizers that have donated to this sight and I'm sorry I've been on this site for years - and yes it was for the free stuff - I used it for training - showing good and bad designs, the importance of doing test sew-outs, the techniques of other digitizers, there was a lot to learn from here  - yes some companies did use it for advertising - but others did use it for the free designs to stitch out private items.  I'm sorry this site has changed  - it was a great resource,
