    Free time for newbie

I would like to ask if anyone has free time to give me some hints( 1st ever machineWink on anything you think I need to know, like where to save patterns(is there something special for this) without having a mess on my computer, on software( if I decide to make my own) anything at all you can think of , I would greatly apreciate.

My first pattern I did today, havent read thru PED yet but can you only have 1 pattern on card to put in machine?

I know I am wasting alot of material and stablizer, cut both same size for hoop but when I cut away, losing half of the backing. hints hints hints ?

Just if you would like to share basic knowledge on sewing and embroidering.  I have a feeling I am going to love this and need lots of help!

I have one daughter playing College fastpitch softball and a 14 year old playing 18 under fastpitch, I cant wait to do some(softball goodies) embroidering for them.

    Thanks Much ChrissyBig Smile

    Hi Chrissy,

In regards to organizing your designs we recommend Catalog Xpress.  You can download a 30 day trial version at http://www.annthegran.com/Product.aspx?t=1&i=2567.

With Catalog Xpress you can organize your design files into categories, convert to different file formats and resize to fit your hoop.

Most of our designs are available in a download format.  We recommend you create a folder on your hard drive and place all of your design files in this folder.  That way later on you can easily locate your design files.

In regards to conserving backing and stabilizer, please send us at e-mail at support@annthegran.com and we will do our best to e-mail you some information.

    Thank you

    Re: Free time for newbie

    Chrissy,

I haven't been at this too long, but I learned a lesson the hard way.  ALWAYS set up a separate folder for your embroidery files and ALWAYS ALWAYS create some sort of subfolder system.  In other words, don't dump every file you buy or download into one big folder.  In super short order, you'll have a mess that will make you hate to even look in that folder!

I've just spent most of a month (not every minute, but it sure seems that way) organizing my 600+ embroidery files.  I had unzipped my packs of designs into individual files, not keeping related files together, so my folder was awful!  A lot of my designs were named with numbers, not descriptions, so I had no idea what 2590010.pes was.  I sat down with the receipts where I bought the files and renamed every one of the single files to the name the source company had used.  Then, I made folders that were the names of my design packs and moved all the designs that belonged in those packs into the new folders.  I didn't rename each of the files inside the folders, because the folder name let me know what the designs were and my editing software let me preview the designs before I opened them.

As for the rest, all I can say is, have fun.  This is supposed to be a hobby (unless you are planning to sell your embroidery right away), so play with the machine and designs and see what you can do.

    Enjoy,

    Pat
