Is Pe Design 8.0 compatible with Vista 64

My husband got me a new computer for Christmas and it runs VISTA 64.  My PE Design won't work on it because there is no serial port.  I want to get PE Design 8.0 but need to be sure it will run on VISTA 64.  Oh yes, my machine is a Brother Pacesetter 8500.

    Thanks

    Marsha

    Hi, Marsha.

You did not state which version of PE Design you have.

If I understand this information I found on-line, you may be able to use converter software to change to the USB port B connector instead of a serial port.   http://www.taltech.com/TALtech_web/support/usb2serial.htm  (good reading when you have insomnia)

I do not speak "tech".  Just looking for possible solutions so you do not have to buy a new embroidery program, unless you want to update.

Brother should be able to provide more information regarding converter software.

There is some information at Brother Solutions regarding v7, but not much on v8 - http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/eu/eu_ot/en/faq/faq_top.html?reg=eu&c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=hf_design7euk

There are other software programs that do not require the use of a dongle.  OK, so what's a dongle?

A dongle is an electronic key which allows you to run a computer program. They are little boxes which attach to a printer port. Inside are unique serial numbers that a computer looks at before you are allowed to use a proprietary program.

You would have to have a very new version for it to work under a 64bit system. Whether 8 was made for that I don't know. You would be best off to ask Brother as Pattiann suggested. That is something to think about these days when contimplating a new computer. What software can't you do without and can you afford to upgrade it if it won't work on that system. For now, for myself, I wouldn't buy the 64bit system,  or if I did I'd get one like my friend did, both 32 and 64 bit versions came on disk, so she can use either that she chooses. Not super easy to do, but doable. Then a year or 2 down the road it could be reformatted to the 64bit when you are ready.

A quick reply: yes, definitely: PE-Design version 8 works under Windows Vista 64-bits.

I just bought myself a new computer, Vista 64 bits operating system and installed PE-Design 8 without a problem. If you check out Brother's own website, information about PE-Design 8 and click on Support/downloads you end up on the page where you can download the latest update, 8.02, with several links for the various Windows version, including Vista 64 bits.

    Hope this helps

Enjoy the software: since your version, Brother has added so many powerful features - you're in for a treat!

Thanks for the information and sorry I didn't reply sooner.  I have been in Ohio helping my parents (mom 85 and dad 86) get some paperwork done and then some repairs around the house.

I haven't had much time for MEing and fortunately still have my old computer so my old PE Design is still working.  I will get back to upgrading after the first of the year - life allowing :-)

    Thanks again
