    Saving your designs and sanity.

I may be wrong but I have never seen this discussed in any of the blogs or forums.

Most embroidery machines have folders that you can store designs on.  Be it from the computer, disk or card if your machine has one please get in the habit of using them.

When moving or resizing a design I always save it to a file on the machine.  Some designs I work with come in 2 or 3 parts for the size or stitch count.  If you save ANY changes you have made if the electric goes out or you quit for the night and go back to the design you have saved, NOT to the one on the disk or card.

What made me write this was I am working on a design that has 53000 stitches and 36 color changes.  I resized the design and then I moved it slightly with the machine in the hoop.  This design was broken down in two parts, I saved the first one and then I had a senior moment and didn't save the second part.  Well after 77 minutes of stitching I was ready for the second part, went to the folder and it wasn't there.  No matter how hard I tried I could not remember exactly how much I had moved the design, I knew how much I had resized it but not knowing how much it had been moved I could not get it to stitch correctly.  Counting color changes this was 2½ hours of work for nothing.

Please if you do have folders on your machines use them.  It only takes a minute to do this but if you really need it just once you will be thankful that you took the time to do it.  When you are done with your project just delete it or do like I do, mine are saved as 1, 2, or 3 and then I let the machine overwrite them.

I hope this helps someone and if this has been posted before I missed it.

Thanks Marge, yes this is a good idea. that is another one of those things that we just plain don't think about when it comes to explaining things to folks out there in the community. We take so much for granted that other's just know how to do this! To make sure everyone See's this I am going to mention this in my next blog, that is if you don't mind? Everyone should be aware of this! My guess is some of the newbies don't know this.

    Thanks Marge!!!Big Smile

WOW, Marge, I want to see that design!  I try to avoid so many color changes because it is so time consuming.  On the other hand, so many color changes make for a beautiful eye catching and awesome design.

You are so right!  Saving a design to your machine is the same as "backing up" your designs.  You can always erase something if you need the space or no longer want the design, but the first rule is, save, save and back up!

Whenever I am doing anything in Catalog Express,( which is on sale this week, don't pass this opportunity to get this NOW) I back up everything, then if I think I didn't I back it up again! I do the same on my machine too. We who live in Florida have learned ,that with the continual power outages we experience here ,LOL, That is the best way so we can pick up where we left off when the lights went out............hey wait a minute wasn't that a song?

Marge I am so dying to see what that design is going on! YOU HAD BETTER POST A PICTURE OF IT!! Remember I know where you live!! Just  kidding! Please, show it to us when you get it done. You are very ambitious to attempt a big one like that!!Big Smile Good Luck Marge and keep me posted!!

Just so everyone knows this: If you get Catalog Express this week, and Alphabet Express, it's like getting the Alphabet Express for free! With what you save on Catalog Express, it will pay for the Alphabet Xpress........you can't beat a deal like that!

    Hi Gals,

Yes I too would like to see a design that has 55000 stitches.  I don't think the new Viking's Mega hoop could take that many.

I goofed, (another senior moment?)  there are 5500 stitches.  Guess I just liked adding zero's.  The color changes are correct, it does take a lot of time but what else is there to do, (cleaning, cooking, gardening, working etc.).
