Digital Scrapbooking - No Glue Required

Welcome to the world of Digital Scrapbooking! Join me as we work towards building digital layouts helping to preserve the memories of our lives.

Jump right in, the water is warm!

This is me!Scrapbooking, for millions is a passionate hobby.  Scrappers spend hundreds of hours pouring over paper, and bows, and buttons, and glue... oh the glue!  Well, personally, I never could come to terms with that glue.  I'm one of those kind of gals that has to have the ability to take a button, put it on a piece of paper, and if I don't like it, move it.  Well glue is stubborn and isn't very flexible when it comes to what I want.  So I said goodbye to the glue and went digital!

A little about me...

First, welcome to my blog!  I'm overjoyed to be a part of the AnnTheGran community and excited about sharing information about digital scrapbooking with everyone!  I am Stacy Carlson, a stay-at-home (working) mom to my daughter (born 2001) and my son (born 2007).  Our family resides in Nebraska, which is where I was born and raised.  I've been a part of the digital scrapbooking community since 2005 and have watched as this little known hobby has slowly crept more and more into the mainstream world.

In 2005, my cousin and I started a website called GottaPixel.net, and from there, things have snowballed into what my life is now!  Addicted to digital scrapbooking!

Our very own Ann The Gran has been introducing you to digital scrapbooking in her blogs, showing you wonderful layouts she has compiled.

With conventional paper scrapbooking, you purchase paper, and embellishments (elements) and glue and scissors, and bows and ribbon and.... You take all those pieces, along with your photos, and make scrapbook layouts that tell a story.  Digital scrapbooking is the same thing, but you work with digital supplies and graphics software (like Adobe Photoshop Elements) instead.  Digital Scrapbook page kits will give you all the supplies you will need to create a page:  paper, elements, ribbons and bows.  Using your graphics software, you arrange the paper, photos, and elements together, just like you would with conventional paper scrapbook supplies, to create a scrapbook layout that tells a story.

You can create so many things; brag books, layouts, albums, framed artwork.  The sky is the limit when it comes to creativity and digital scrapbooking.  Unlike paper scrapbooking, you have the option to manipulate photos and use custom brushes in your graphics software.  And when you're done, you will have something that will last a lifetime!

Through this blog, I will be walking you through the steps of getting started in creating your own digital scrapbook memories.  You will be able to find tutorials, examples, challenges, and hopefully inspiration, but most of all, someone to whom you can ask every single question you have!

I'm excited about getting started!  Before I do though, I want to tell you all a little secret!  On October 30, 2008 you're going to be able to find some incredible and wonderful digital scrapbook supplies right here at AnnTheGran, but even better, one of the talented designers who will be selling her designs is none other than Ann Cobb!  Yes, our very own Ann The Gran has been creating digital scrapbook products for some time, and it's so exciting to have her selling them here!  Also, November 1 is National Digital Scrapbook Day!  A perfect time to introduce everyone to this wonderful passion!

Sounds like fun.  Looks like we have a few things in common:  I live in NE too (GO HUSKERS!), have a 7 yr. old daughter, and I didn't ever accomplish anything with hybrid scrapping because I always wanted to change my layouts and it was impossible to move things!

Hello Annette!  I so understand!  I did paper scrapbooking once.  I went to a scrapbooking party at my friends house, tried to make this photo album for my mom, and was so frusturated by the time I was done!  Not to mention my photo holder was not very pretty!  My OCD gets the better of me when it comes to paper scrapping.  And it's so nice to see another Nebraskan here.  I see lots and lots of red people on Saturdays.

I am ready and willing to jump in, like you I had issues with spending so much time with the paper, glue and all the stuff. It is nice and it would be a nice gift for someone, but I seriously so do not have the time, or space for all that stuff! So the digital scapbooking is right up my alley. Thanks for sharing and welcome to the ATG site, and to the world of bloggers!

Stacey,

I started scrappbooking about 7 yrs ago, but all the supplies were so expensive for just 1 page. I was lost when I wanted to start with digital. I didn't know the best software to purchase, etc.

I'm looking forward to your blog & finding supplies on ATG.

I'm off to chek out GottaPixel.net!

This blog is going to be one of my favorite!  I have done scrapping for a long time and would like to learn the digital ins and outs. I scrapped an album for my mother's 80th birthday back in August and want to keep adding to it.  I have done some of the digital scrapping and find that I love it.  My grandchildren are coming to Florida and we will be going to Disney around Thanksgiving and I always make an album each year after their visit. Maybe I can use some of the tricks of the trade in digital this year.  Welcome to ATG. and thank you.

Oh, serenemachine2, you thought you were going to have a life? Silly girl. As far as the old pictures, just scan the ones you need for the layout you have in mind, the story you want to tell with your layout. I have an Epson scanner that scans negatives, 8 at a time and saves them as separate files. I can do 4 or 5 photos at a time, too. Some of my photos were so faded I think I rescued them from oblivion just in time.
